Night terrors - why?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Recently I've started having night terrors/nightmares about previous traumatic events and its basically dreams where I'm back in that situation and I'm reliving it all over again.

What I'm confused by is that the trauma happened years ago, why am I suddenly having these dreams now? I can't think of anything inparticular that has triggered it really either. I've been extremely low in mood due to poor mental health but I don't see how it could be that causing this. Any ideas?

    Good day,

I've had nightmares similar to yours as well. In 2011 I was in a major roll over collision with my friend and randomly I'll have nightmares about it where it's happening again. It's hard to say why people dream the way they do and I know it may seem weird but maybe you saw or heard something that kind of reminded you of that trauma but maybe it was your subconscious that picked it up and you had a dream later that night. Have these night terrors been happening only recently? When you're low in mood you would be surprised how that can affect your sleep. When you're feeling depressed your mind wanders to all sorts of dark places that maybe you haven't explored in a very long time. I would suggest seeing your psychiatrist or maybe a psychologist and they can definitely look further into this to see what the root cause is. Hopefully this helps you! Take care!

Hi, thank you for your reply. I did used to have these night terrors after the incidents had happened but it is now several years later and suddenly I am having them again. Just cant understand why but I will book an appointment and hopefully get to the bottom of it!
