Night Vertigo dizziness

Im entering my 9 month of this. and last night I tried to meet up with friends in a pub and by 9pm my brain was tingling and sensations were strong. My ears hurt too.  When my brain has to stare at things more intense than usual i find that when i go to sleep I am awaken by a rush of a sensation like a massive tingling down my right arm and leg and a jerk in my head, sometimes its not too bad but last night it hit me like a bolt of lighting and made my heart beat faster too. It was like an electric shock and i can still feel the tingling in my fingers and feet at times. All my test came back normal and i do exercise and eat well.  So is this night vertigo/dizziness where the brain thinks where is my body? Then it shocks you back.  Has anyone else experienced this when they have gone to sleep after a day of trying to focus on work etc.

Be interesting to hear.  When I do not  engage in socializing or have a quiet evening at home I sleep ok. Surely others do experience this?

Hi Liz - I dont know what you might have but the best thing to do is to get referred to a neurologist.  I have vestibular migraine which gives you dizziness which is also worse at night.  Check out vestibular migraine on the facebook website and see if that helps.  If it is that, its very common but GPs and ENTs dont know much about it.  We are trying to get it more known so people dont suffer for months before getting some help.  If its that, you would need medication to get it under control.  Ive had mine four years now but has improved with botox and gabapentin.  Get a referral from the GP.

Hi there, I'm in month 14 of what they suspect to be vestibular migraines too. I feel this is a cruel thing which can alienate you, I'm feeling I'm at a point now where I have to get out of this or lose who I am forever. I'm awaiting more tests and appointments but it is too slow. You know the nhs move quick with diseases which deteriorate which is good but this seems to be treated like a liveable condition which it is not. I seem to feel crap every day no exaggeration. But it varies in its intensity sometimes I'm ok others I'm overcome by this wave of vile feeling a bit sick lightheaded like my while body down to my fingers tingle and feel like they're out of my control. I hate it. Sometimes when I walk I feel like my body is a little bit in front of my brain and soul like I'm just behind myself trying to catch up. I hope you get some help soon. I'm planning on shouting very loud now til someone hears me! All the best x

I also have the "brain zap" feeling (what I call it). If I over exert my eyes, they feel weird and I have the electric shock feeling which causes a rush tingling in my head and down my arms and legs; and makes my heart beat fast. It also causes a rush of vertigo. Mine can also happen many times throughout the day.

I have no idea why it happens and I have had 4 brain scans - MRI & CT (August was the last one) - and have been to 3 neurologists. They all dismiss it.

I still suggest seeing a neurologist but please know you're not alone!

Thanks everyone for your input. Your help has reassured me and that fact that we all experience the same feeling that zap tingling down your arm it's something we all go through. I did see a neurologist but he said nothing wrong cost me 240 pounds to hear that. THe zap is a vestibular migraine or when our brain has to work extra hard to compensate. When I feel it or go to bed now I squeeze my fist on my left side and wriggle my toes on left side, it's  my right side of the brain I figure can't work out where my limbs are hence the shock on that side more.  Ok  could be wrong but if I keep telling it I'm here then it may get less and improve. So far last night i did sleep ok. I'm going to keep this exercise up. I'm still unsteady during the day but I find cinnazine helps. I take half in morning half evening. Taking ginkgo supplements too. ITS so good we support each other.
