Nightmare for my 15yr old daughter - Vertigo and ETD

Feel like living in a nightmare. My daughter has been gradually getting worse over the last year. Started off with Sinus and ear infections. Gradually she could not pop her ears and started to feel dizzy. Back and forward to the doctor, tried everything. Did hearing test and eye test, both came back clear, no fluid in her ears. Doctor referred her to vistibular physio - some results for vertigo but slow progress. Eventually I asked to be referred to ENT specialist, who suggested MRI scan and balance test. MRI all clear. Balance test showed problem with right ear in semi circular canal to regulate balance - back to vistibular physio. Wrote letter to ENT specialist saying not good enough as her ears have not popper for a year, I suggested from research that she cannot regulate pressure in her ears. She had grommets inserted a nearly a week ago. Ears have still not popped and her vertigo is worse. Dont know what to do - my daughter is like a prisioner in her bedroom and cant go anywhere. Anyone and ideas  ?

I suffer with the same symptoms. It's awful, but the more she can get out the better it will get. Even a 10 minute walk each day to help. Has she been given excersises to do at home?

    Hi there,

So sorry to hear your daughter is going through this. I am suffering from almost identical symptoms. Except my ears pop, only to become plugged again and then pop..like a vicious circle. I do find that the longer ther stay plugged the worse the dizziness becomes.

I too have started vestibular therapy at home and found it has helped a bit. I was also diagnosed with damaged balance organs in my right ear, which they think is the result of back to back ear infections shoetlg after Christmas of last year.

I use nasonex nasal spray which I believe is a large reason my ears are able to pop. I have been using it for about 3 months now. Has your daughter tried this? Most days I am able to get out of the house and do things, but whenever I'm hit with a cold (which has been almost every 2 weeks since January)sad my symptoms all become much worse.

Please let me know if you have any questions for me, or if you have any progress you would like to share. You're not alone in this! smile

    Nicky
