Nightmares

I was diagnosed with PE on Monday. I feel fine in myself, the injections are working and although my breathing isn't 100% it's so so so much better. Everyone asks how I am and I always say fine however I keep waking up to nightmares. It seems every night I'm dreaming about a clot that has spread. I'm also getting rather paranoid about any tiny ailment, i.e. A headache. I find myself panicking incase it's another clot.
Has anyone else been through this?
How did you deal with it?
I don't want to talk to my husband, friends or family and worry them more.

Hi Beckie
This is a totally understandable reaction to what you are going through and it is a very common problem with most people that have had a pe. I was diagnosed in November with large bilateral pe's and right heart strain and my anxiety has gone through the roof. Every pain or ache I get i straight away worry about what is going on, your body is heightened to every odd feeling.
I think it would be really good for you to be able to discuss your worries and concerns with your partner, friends and family, as the support you recieve will really help you and helps them to understand what you are going through.
Also you are with friends here who do understand and any questions please do ask, there is a lot of knowledge on this site and everyone is really friendly and helpful, this forum has been brilliant for me, and continues to be brilliant.
Also don't be worried to go back to your doctor if you are at all worried about anything, after I was discharged form hospital I was at my doctors every week for the first 6 weeks, they will be able to put your mind at ease.
xx

Sounds normal to me! You were just diagnosed with a very serious possibly deadly condition. You were also blessed because they caught it before it killed you!! SO #1 you are on something now that will keep it from spreading. You do what the Drs say! You wear your compression socks if they said to. You walk if they said to and you take your meds faithfully.
God has saved you for a reason. You need to use your life wisely. I was diagnosed in October. Been on medicine since. I still have breathless days where I wonder if I have another one but then I calm down make sure I've done all I was supposed to do for the day and move on. Try to have faith in who I chose to take care of me. Good luck!!

Hi there , as has been said you are on medication now that will stop normally any more clotting . It would help to maybe gently talk to close friends and family rather than wind yourself up , and also everyone here is friendly and as well has been in a similar situation in one aspect or another .
I am very casual about it , probably too casual as I had multiple pe's in both lungs , but I figure if I can stay calm , keep the medication level and be a bit careful then hopefully it's all plain sailing from here .
Every day I try ( sometimes it's hard) to find one or 2 things to make me smile and keep me calm and let the rest take care of itself.
A bit of a ramble , but mainly try and talk to friends or on here , try to find a bit of calm and try to enjoy each day .
All the best
James
