Nightmares upset me the next day, all day!

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have awful dreams. They are recurring. Back in the old address and the people who I have got rid of because they were toxic in my life. Then I try to remember that I have my own flat now BUT I can never remember the address and don't have any keys on me.

Readers could you let me know how it is for you? Is it a piece of music or something a person says that trigger the flashbacks?

It is hard for us all and I hope that the people on this site find it helpful to post as we are all in the same boat I guess.

I think most things can trigger flash backs hun. Mine can be triggered by smell, loud noises, certain words or phrases etc etcc. It is awful but treatment can really help. There was one time when I started screaming so loudly my neighbours called the police and they started trying to bash the door down at 3am!

      Hi Angel

Thank you for your reply. Yes  certain phrases do it to me also. One time a guy pretended he was going to throw his coffee on me. It was all in play but I shook cos my dad did threw a drink on me when I was 14 and it was on my new tshirt.

I turn the radio down at work if a certain song comes on.

And yes, I shout in my flat "go away. Leave me alone"!

I do have a good friend. Some people don't have tht.

What exactly were you screaming at 3am if you don't mind me asking?

      Hugs

Nightmares are trying to work out some issues you have anything can trigger a flashback. Doesnt even have to be realated to anything at all. Could be based in a emotion you are feeling.

    Louisa,

Yes I have nightmares so bad my husband wakes me cause I am screaming or crying. Loud music can trigger it for me. Certain people, certain movies or a scene in a movie. The was someone's expressions are even can terrify me. I have been known to space out for several moments and I am back inside a dark memory. I try to stay in the moment as much as possible. With the help of meds I am better. Please never feel you are alone. We are all here to help each other! Best of luck to you hope you are feeling better soon

Hi I know how you feel Louisaluvsrio, I too used to have awful nightmares about my attacker and in general men due to bad relationships after this had happened, my only way out is now I'm with a husband who really does love me for me and does understand what it feels like to be accused of this.  You need to find a really good friend, I have known my 2 really good friends for over 20 years one of them since childhood.  Girls are often better to talk to as their level of empathy seems to be higher for most people or talk to us.  I was told just to talk to someone I've even spoken to the samaritans before.  The more you speak to people the more you have these events flashbacks etc out of your head.  We understand and are far enough removed to be supportive!  Big hugs - you need them!

      Hi Sam

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what you meant by being accused of this?

It is good to talk and for the people to comment that it must of been awful for you and that none of it was your fault.

I have a good friend and when I'm with him I don't feel like talking about my rubbish childhood and the bullying at work.

I don't ring the samaritans cos all they do is listen and ask 'do you have family, friends, go to work'.

I know the best thing is to keep busy and that is what I do. I hate getting ill cos then too much time to think.

Hi Louise, I know it sounds strange but if you find your forgetting about your keys I know you can buy key bleepers that will make a noise if you lose your keys so you can locate them easier.  I have dyslexia so sometimes I need gadgets and things to aid memory etc.  You need to know the underlying cause of your forgetfulness, mine is to do with my dyslexia as I said.  Good luck trying to get the support you so desperately require.

Hi Sam. I don't forget my keys. My friend should have one of those bleepers. Where do you get them?

I had a month of anxiety and now feel calmer.

      Hugs
