Nine months out from PKR and cannot walk without pain.

It seems that I keep moving backwards.  I had pkr in July, did all my exercises, and rom was good.  I could do 30 minutes of mild laps, eased into walking my 10,000 steps, and was able to ride my bike everyday.  Also continued with my quad exercises everyday.  I have never been totally pain free, but did feel some improvement.  Three weeks ago, I was 10 minutes into my swim and felt a twinge in my knee.  Stopped right away.  I was unable to put any weight on it.  I have seen two ortho docs.  First one said my pkr surgeon messed up and I need revision.  Clearly, I am not ready to accept that.  Second doc has ordered MRI on lumbar as it might be nerve damage.  I have excruciating pain running from thigh to medial side and sometimes down lateral side.  When I walk, I am only able to walk stiff legged.  At this point, I am having trouble trusting anyone. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

    Hi Sue

So sorry you going through all this at this point .  You are 10months? That is still early .

I had PKR two years ago may 19. I too got right back into exercises etc .

However and that is a big however , when I did too much I paid the price . As soon as knee did not feel right I backed right off and laid low for days with ice, rest, and elevation . And that still goes for now . I can not do 10000 steps plus biking each day . Way too much .

I do not believe I / we can ever workout at the level we did previous .

Maybe just ice as much as you can , elevate the knee and rest as much as possible .

It may turn around , I really take care now if knee because of going through exactly what you are a few times . Finally learned my lesson .🤷🏻???

Thank you, Debbie.  I have been resting and icing, too.  I was led to believe I could return to my normal lifestyle by the end of the first year, with little restriction.  I am just so very discouraged.  If I had this to do over, I would never have had the surgery.  At least with the osteo and bone on bone, I knew what to expect and I knew how to control it.

I hope one you keep progressing!

It would have been helpful to hear what others are experiencing.  It’s spring, so maybe everyone is outside enjoying the warmer weather!!
