Nissen & hiatal hernia repair vs. the Linx ?

II live in the USA in state of Georgia, and was wondering if anyone in the US has the the LINX surgery and where do you find a Dr. that does it.  Also does anyone know if Medicare covers it? I am scheduled for a Nissen in November 2017, after reading allot of negative posts on this surgery, recovery, and life long changes I'm now having second thoughts it.

I want a less invasive surgery I want to  improve my quality of life not make it worse.  I have also read that the  Nissen is non reversible and that is a problem for me

I would like to explore all available options before I proceed with the  Nissen.

Daisy, you can read about this surgery..... Nissan fundiplication on Wickapedia.  It is done by laparoscope...... not as invasive as a midline incision. I would say that any general surgeon would do this procedure and I would also say that Medicare would pay for it.

I am speaking not from personal experience, but my professional nursing experience.

All the best to you. Keep us informed.

      Thank you Jeannie!

I was wondering if Medicare would pay for the Linx since it's so new?

and that they would push for the Nissen.

Daisy, you can check with Medicare directly or the billing department at your Dr about Medicare payment.

As to the LINX procedure vs the Nissen Fundoplication, I would make very sure your Dr has explained each procedure to you in terms you can understand. Also, in today's world, a second opinion never hurts.

    All the best to you.

Hi, I had the LINX  procedure performed on March 9, 2018. I was just wondering if you went ahead with the fundoplication or if you did seek out to try for the LINX procedure?  I only ask because I’m having insurance policy issues about my choice and the fact that I did what was best for my body. Actually they are most likely not going to cover the LINX device, but I plan to fight for them to.  My story is too long for a reply box, but something in your question above made me want to reach out.

    Hi Daisy,

         Did you have your surgery?

I had the Linx installed 5/1/18 and I am fairly happy with it.  Only time will tell.  Right now, food continues to have a difficult navigation at times; but no GERD at all!!!

I previously had the Nissen, and I was super happy with that.  Then, 5 years later, the symptoms came back with a vengeance.  It turns out, that fundiplications only last so long.  My stitches broke, and they said that eventually that would happen.   They never told me that!!!

Anyway, time will tell whether or not I will be completely satisfied with the Linx.
