So sorry about your pain carli! You don't necessarily have to have a positive RF to have RA. Did they do the CCP as well? That's the inflammation number and that is almost more important that the RF. Either way, not having it show up in lab work doesn't mean you are not suffering from it. Keep on top of it and make sure your doctor does more testing. You really do have to be your own doctor with this disease and make the decisions, unfortunately. But stick with it and see a specialist for RA to rule it out completely. All the best to you and keep us updated!

Could you possibly be allergic to your meds?  I had nerve issues with one of my pain meds.  They didn't cause pain but more like electric shocks going through my body!

If you are in that much pain I wouldn't wait another week to see someone!  You need to get in somewhere to get some relief!  If you have to find another doctor or if it's severe go to the ER!  As the other person posted you can have a negative rh and still have ra!  You need to deal with your pain first and then follow up with the rest of the testing!  Good luck and keep us updated!

Hi Carli, this pain you are experiencing definitely sounds like you are having a very toxic reaction to medication you are on, as well as very posdibly being very low in magnesium (magnesium glycinate, not magnesium oxide which has low absorption). I had this experience myself and was taken off the medication immediately, which was causing this severe allergic type reaction feeling like serious neuropathy type pain. It is surprising to me that your doctor has not taken this as serious as this is for you, and is not managing your condition. Also I'm wondering if you have been prescribed the magnesium glycinate, as this is very seriously depleted with underactive thyroid, which involves the adrenal gland. But in order for magnesium to be absorbed adequately, as well as calcium that is so much needed, they must be taken together, with vitam D3 (2000 mg) in order for the body to absorb all of these much needed nutrients for muscle, nerve, and bone processes/pain. Magnesium is resp for over 350 enzyme reactions involving our muscles, nervous system, bones, protein (repair and building), hormones, and the master adrenal gland, etc. The calcium needs to be taken during the day in 2x separate doses (1250 mg daily) during the day, and should not be taken at bedtime. The magnesium glycinate should be taken 2 to 4 tablets a day, with 2 taken at bedtime. It is also wonderful for sleep. I am wondering if the gp you have is a D.O. or Internist, as opposed to an MD, as they tend to look more at the body as a whole, that must be in sync with other body systems. I hope so much to have helped, and hope to hear back from you to let us know how you have recovered from this very dehabilitating pain you have been experiencing.

Thanks for the replies, ive now seen the endo, who basically did what I thought he would, up the thyroxine and send me away for 6 wks, said to come off the steroids and naproxen as they are not needed!!!!!! I tried to explain about the pain but he said aches and pains are a part of under active thyroid, and that my goitre could take 12 months to go down. Total waste of time, got the gp again Tues but he wont overrule anything the endo has said. So that's it, another 6 wks of pain

Wow.. low thyroid = very depleted magnesium. (Glycinate) = tremendous muscle and all over body pain.. .why not naproxin? Does it help you? If it does, i would not stop this, unless it is dangerous to do this. Would you like to go for a second endocronologist opinion?

Low thyroid can induce RA even if you dont have the RA factor..are you able to check reviews and go to a different Endocronologist!? There is a huge connection between the adrenal gland ( master gland that regulates the many different hormones and functions) and your under active thyroid.. Please research this. Have you been prescribed magnesium (glycinate)?

Hi cheria, I haven't been prescribed magnesium and don't think I b able to c a different endo, I travelled 2 hours to see this one, theres not much around here. I will research the adrenal gland. Ive had bad nerve type pain in my legs all night and now have a painful lower back. Do u think a neurologist would benefit me?
