No gastritis, no inflammation, no hernia no GERD - what is this?!

Posted , 6 users are following.

Right, I'm posting both here and in reflux esophagitus in the hope that someone can tell me what on earth is going on with me because I'm really looking at dying as the only option to elliviate me from this hell hole. So tired of not getting better.

I've had an endoscopy, suppodesdy the gold standard test to review if there are any problems with my esophagus and digestive tract. This has shown absolutely no erosions, no hernia, no inflammation what-so-ever and the gastro told me to discontinue the idea of GERD or a hernia from  my head as he doesn't think this is a problem for me at all.

I have however been diagnosed with constipation, fecal loading and a colon that contracts and causes abdominal pain. I've mentioned this as I don't know if it will be relevant with the problems I'm having higher up.

Right, so lets get to the problems I have higher up.

In between meals (never after I've eaten) I get what starts as a tickle, almost like there's dust or something tickling my throat and esophagus. Then I feel the need to cough which is a dry cough.

I'll then feel breathless and have some chest presence and sensitivity.

I absolutely do not get heartburn at all and have told there is no damage in my esophagus and it's very unlikely I have GERD.

SO WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THEN?

I've really had enough.

Any responses will be helpful.

Hi ...how very strange I have exact same symptoms. It started with nausea and a change in bowel habit mainly constipation ( going every 3/4days)and bloating .All tests came back negative apart from small bowel loops and irregular gas pattern .Endoscopy identified gastritus and then I started to get sore throats with even some blood in sputum . They started like yours tickle cough but developed into really sore throat and Everyone said It was acid coming up .On Omaprazole for 3 months .Hate taking tablets . Then I paid privately to see Prof Invar Bjarnsson at the Cromwell Hospital . Highly recommended. He dismissed gastritus saying my symptoms were not to do with stomach but my bowel . He told me to stop taking Omaprazole if symptoms were not improving .I said about my terrible sore throats . He asked if I am stressed and suffer anxiety .which I do because I feel so unwell . He said he sees alot of T V and film actors who suffer stress when learning lines for tight deadlines and get stressed .he said the throat is the first area to be affected by stress as is the bowels . .he recommend a course of CBT ..which I have been referred to on NHS only 6 weeks . For the last 3 days since seeing him my sore throat has gone although I do feel a tiny tickle occasionally but so so much better .. I still have constipation but doing all the right things to eliminate it including Laxido ..Prof said I need a MRI to look more closely at bowel and a poo test to rule out other bacteria .. I tested negative for

    H. Polori .He also recommend taking a probiotic. But only one really works .. I can't remember the name but if you go on his Web site you will find it ..He is a world renowned GI for research in this field . Good luck ..I sense like me you are getting frustrated and anxious about your situation ..but honestly stressing about it really can cause throat chest and bowel problems .

Hi Alison, thanks for your response. I started with nausea and gnawing at night. Felt hungry and sick at the same time. This then progressed to terrible stomach pains with constipation and bloating. Then I started to get all the problems up top. I was convinced I had acid reflux but the endoscopy in Jan showed absolutely nothing in my esophagus and the gastro is convinced there isn't an acid problem.

I am very stressed, even beforehand I have suffered with anxiety and feeling indcredibly frustrated with my life.

I'm on  mebeverine which seems to have helped with cramping, but I'm having strange chest pressure, tickling and coughing with throat soreness. Have you had to change your diet at all with all of this or have you just been using Laxido and going through CBT? I'm also due to receive CBT and hope it helps me. Thank again.

I'm careful with my diet but refuse to cut out major food groups ... I love food and cooking I'm a trained home economics teacher and nutritionist .I eat small meals fairly regularly .I have cut out alcohol and have just started coffee again . Stomach seems ok on the diet I have always eaten . I might reduce bread as in the past I have felt less bloated but apart from that nothing has changed .I'm begin G to feel as if this is all anxiety driven ..if you can keep positive and active you might turn a corner and feel better . If all tests comeback negative then it's down to anxiety management . Good luck

Hi Alison, thanks again for your reassuring comments. When you say careful, have you cut out tomatoes, onions etc like acid reducing diets tell you too? I am and always have been a healther eater, if not for a weekly indulgence, but like you I refuse to compromise on cutting out basic healthy foods like tomatoes and onions and since the gastro said that GERD isn't a problem then I've reintroduced everything back into my diet...and then the sore throat hit me again. I'm considering seeing your specialist but I'm quite tight on funds this month. I'm even considering going to a homeopath as I've heard good things from others, yet I know a lot of it isn't steeped in science. I'm trying to remain positive and active as of this week but it is hard when you have the constant chest twinges and raw throat.

I'm no doctor but here's some stuff I've used that helped me

    For constipation

I have either carrots, Apple, cabbage juice or warm water with ginger root, add camomile tea (this has helped me a lot)

    For itchy/tickled throat

Try having a tsp of manuka honey and/or Apple cider vinegar, honey, lukewarm water 20-30mins before breakfast or eating

Be patient. You'll feel better soon.

Try to go for walk after meals, eat small meals everyday 2-3hrs, avoid trigger foods. Eat lots of fruits (banana and Apple are the best) and vegetable and meditate
