Well I have all the same problems as everyone replying along with horrific urinary discomfort. It make the vaginal pain seem insignificant. Vagifem seemed to be helping but just suddenly stopped helping at all. I am at a total loss. Sex is impossible. No libido, feel like my insides are on fire. What exactly is prolapse? Anyone following this let me know.

Dont think your symptoms sound like prolapse at all, which could be the uterus or bladder or lower bowel all or separately protruding into your vagina. you would feel a "dropping down" sensation or a bulge.   The manufacturers of Vagifem reduced the dose and I found that I used to be free of UTIs while using the prvious dosage, but its not available now, only the new lower dose.    Have you seen your doc? or had any urinary tests? He/she should be able to help you with something. Dont suffer in silence...you're worth looking after.

Thank you Marina Dee. I googled prolapse to try to get an understanding of that was and I agree with you - I don't think that is my problem.  I've seen my GP two or 3 times, then went to a urologist, then went to my obgyn.  Everyone had an opinon - but my obgyn told me they were all wrong.  This is VA ... I believe he is correct.  So I've followed his recommendations.  The Vagifem did seem to help but that prescription ran out.  He told me to try the estrogen cream - Estrace.  I started using it this morning.  It is just a very small amount applied internally and externally.  Now I have to "wait and see" if I get any relief from the pain, burning and urinary discomfort.  Thank you for your kind words ... we are worth looking after.  I've been to the doctor for this problem for months and it just isn't resolved.  That is so disheartening ... I read it and feel it from others on this forum too.  Why VA seems so "unknown" is beyond understanding.  My dr said that he thinks women are reluctant to talk about it.  He may be right.  So it is up to us ... talk, share, post and hope for good solutions.  In addition to the Vagifem (not Estrace cream)  I use Vit E and coconut oil for the VA along with D-Mannose powder capsules which I take twice a day to help prevent UTI's (the urologist suggested that) ... I am 64 with a younger man in my life.  He is very understanding of my pain and does not want to hurt me.   I thank the lord every day for that and him.

have you noticed most of us have younger partners, all understanding. I am debating whether to use Vit E now or just to try Vagifem and see what happens -

If you do decide to use Vitamin E, make sure it is all natural and it doesn't have sugar, starch, lactose, artificial flavour or preservatives etc. It has to be the natural Vitamin E to work. It should say on the bottle

d-alpha-tocopheryl acetate and then you know its the real deal. If you can't find any and need a web site to order just let me know and I will steer you to a web site.

                                   Blessings to you

You are right, many of the women posting have mentioned having younger men in their lives.  And that does put us in a difficult position at times.  But, if a man does not care enough about you to understand, then he probably does not deserve you.  Do I wish it were different?  Yes, I do. A good friend told me "there is more ways to make love than intercourse." She is right, of course - so we do whatever works. I was given this problem and I've got deal with it. Honestly, openly and with hope.  I am going to make sure the Vit E I am using is all natural.  I just tried a new brand and I don't think it is - and my problems have gotten so much worse.

pat, it seems difficult to imagine women would have problems this extreme but be reluctant to mention it to their doctors . maybe 50 or 75 years ago, but nowadays what isn't advertised or discussed blatantly on tv, magazines & the radio?? just today they were discussing the female viagra pill, the details of whom it would & wouldn't be appropriate for, pros & cons etc on public tv & radio.(it isn't for post menopausal women apparently).

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If women don't insist on getting help there will not be any. We have to take it into our own hands. If no one ever complained of a toothache would dentistry ever have been invented?

That existance of the Mona Lisa laser treatment tells me doctors have been aware of the problem for some time and have finally come up with a possible solution. I am intrigued by it and hope to discuss it with my gyno though I'm sure she will say my case is too mild.

So let's all encourage each other to insist that we get relief and not stop till we do!

Pat,you have to use whatever is given you on a permanent basis. You say the Vagifem helped, but then the prescription ran out,so why not ask for more?   This is usually something you have to deal with for the rest of your life,or at least the rest of your sexually active life.  i have used Vagifem for more than 6 years now and I feel fine, but you must keep up the treatment.

Just a thought for all the ladies with a 'burning' vagina......have you been tested for  Candida [thrush]?  It does not always cause a 'cottage cheesy' discharge, just a very sore vagina and vulva.  If you suspect candida, you can buy an over the counter Canestan pessary with applicator.   But,if after using it the condition is no better, DONT try using another canestan pessary as you may make matters worse.   If no improvement...do see your doctor.

PS  I have a younger partner too!

I agree with you...I have no difficulty speaking out. My dr will refill the Vagifem for me but it costs $300 for 16 applicators. I am having trouble with the cost plus my insurance has limited how much they will allow. So he said to try the Estrace cream and see if that will work. I am giving it a try. Until I starting asking women I know if they experienced this problem no one had heard of it. No one at work, my adult daughters, the urologist nor my gp. none of them mentioned this as a possibility for my discomfort either. I found that more distressing than anything. Thank goodness my obgyn knew exactly what is wrong and will try to help me work this out. I will look into the Mona Lisa laser treatment. If it is appropriate for me and if I can find a way to handle it financially then I will consider it.
