No need to worry about endoscopy!

I just has to post something as I had an endoscopy this afternoon and was worried sick after reading terrible things on forums. So if I can help anyone out there waiting I have to share how it really is. I was so scared, I really didn't think I could do it. I suffer with panick attacks and am so scared of not being able to swallow and am scared of sedation drugs. So I opted to have it done without anything, so no numbing spray or section.

PLEASE DO NOT STRESS, if I can do it anyone can. It is not half as bad as you are imagining, it does not hurt, it is just really weird. I didn't have my throat numbed and could feel everything and it still didn't hurt so with a bit of spray it probably no problem at all.

the camera is much smaller than I thought. You can breath and easily. It is over with so quick, I made myself I'll with worry, please don't, I have felt worse at the dentist.

I has it done 7 hours ago and all I have is a sore throat but not the worst sore throat I have ever had either, just hurts a little when swallowing,

the staff know what they are doing and nurses talk you through it.

mind over matter, think of your breathing, hold back the gags ( I've gagged and vomitted more from stomach bugs)

it is not painful. I read terrible posts saying it's like a hose pipe and you choke and it's painful. Maybe they have experienced that but I can honestly say it isn't like that at all and it can be done with no numbing or sedation. I had cuppa straight away and was driving home while all the others has to stay there to recover.

It'll be quick and give you massive peace of mind if you have worrie like I have for months that it could be something really bad in your stomach.

good luck all

Thank you!  I am still waiting to see the ENT guys and it isn't actually what I have read on here but my friends locally, who are telling me terrible tales!

I was going to have the spray and am aware of the actual size of the endoscope.

Thank you - such a helpful post! I'm having a gastroscopy on Sunday and have been really anxious about it. Think I'll go for the throat spray as don't like the idea of being out of control with sedation! My symptoms have improved in the last few days and now tempted not to have it done but your post has made me more confident that I'll be able to deal with it.
