No sex drive, erection issues and strange ejaculation
Posted , 3 users are following.
I am a 47 year old male, very overweight, I do exercise often, never smoked, drink once a week.
Here's my problem: I used to have an extremely high sex drive but now it's very low. I also am suffering erection issues when making love to my wife.
I get "morning wood" no problem in the mornings, and sometimes it lasts for ages, but when it comes to sex with my partner my erection does not last.
When I do get the urge to masturbate once a week, my ejaculation is sometimes "strange". I do not always enjoy it, and sometimes there's little sensation at all. Sometimes my penis feels weird. Sometimes I am not fully erect before I ejaculate. Whatever erection I have dissipates immediately after ejaculation - it never used to.
I've been on Prozac (Fluoxetine) 60mg for 17 years (yes, 17) to treat OCD and am thinking the medication has now started working against me.
I would appreciate any advice.

Hi Scott
Sorry to hear all this. It must be both depressing and frustrating.
My first thought was that Fluoxetine can reduce sex drive and you are on a high end dose. However you have been on it for so long, I would think that the problem would have arisen long before now. Might be one to discuss with your doctor though.
Second thought would be to get your testosterone levels checked. The levels decline with age and if they get too low your sex drive would be reduced.
Third thought was that if you could just fix the erectile dysfunction, it would reduce your anxiety about sex and your old enthusiasm and enjoyment might gradually return. You will be aware of medication like Viagra can can make a big difference here. I would suggest though that you get yourself checked out by a doctor before you start on it. The reason being that occasionally erectile dysfunction can be the first sign of circulatory disorders. Worth getting checked out.
Hope this helps.
Best of luck to you

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply.
I was wondering, if I had circulation problems, how I would get full morning erections. Surely they wouldn't be occurring if bloodflow wasn't getting to the right area?
My current thinking is that my body isn't tolerating the high dose of Prozac any longer, or its affected my brain circuitry somehow. This would explain the weird ejaculations.
My excess weight can't be helping either, definitely, so maybe I should get a check on my circulation. My family on my mother's side has a history of heart disease - with my mother and her brothers all suffering heart attacks (they were all smokers, whereas I am not). I do exercise regularly, I lift heavy weights 2-3 times a week, and some cardio (exercise bike) 2x a week.
I usually get my cholesterol checked every year and last reading was 4, which is good, but haven't had it checked this year as the pandemic has kind of taken everything over.

You make a good point about the morning wood. That is encouraging as it shows there can't be anything fundamentally wrong with your hydraulics.
It would be worth discussing the fluoxine with your doctor with a view to trying out a lower dose and seeing whether it's a good trade off.
