No Sleep off Mirtazepine

Hi

I have tried to come off Mirtazepinre many times using different methods, the best Method seems to be the slow taper. The problem is the jump off point I can last about 7 days and feel good and sleep ok but around the 5- 7th day no sleep starts, I have to work to make a living like most, so not having sleep is so stressful, nothing I can take over the counter can help get me to sleep, like MERT, and of course the other drugs known as addictive, Lorazepam (BENZO) helps but Doctor very scared to prescribe, because of the addiction, Well what about the MERT? And just how addictive is not being able to come off the MERT, yes!!  It’s  not like Cocaine, morphine, METH, Heroin. BENZO addiction, it is another type of addiction that they don’t tell you when you start taking it, and that is because most GP’s don’t relly know much about it,  but what they read from the studies. It’s called the silent addiction drug, it’s the drug that is not addictive but can be if you are that person. Anyway,  on my next taper,  I was thinking about doing Cannabises since it is legal where I live and I have been reading about the different strains and there is one that is good for insomnia that I would like to keep handy for the sleepless nights  I know I am going to suffer through, anyone have any experience with this type of method?

I'm down to 3.75mg. Planning to finish in next week or so. Sleep is not as good as before but coping at present. Also tapering Velafaxine. All I know about cannabis is that it can cause psychosis. I'd be very wary of trying it. When you came off the Mirt how did you do it? Everything I've read here suggests reducing by small amounts is best for avoiding side effects. I did it in 7.5mg increments until I was down to 7.5mg then I halved it. I sleep less but I don't feel sleep deprived.

    Take care and good luck

      Hi,

I have been 7 days no Mirt had to take 7.5 last night as I heve not had any sleep in 48hr and I have to go to work, My mood seems alot better this time around, next week will see DOC and  talke about options.

for me weening to 7.5 for about 7 days then jump off works but some other people are alot more senative and need to ween down to 1mg.

If I doint  make it this time I may try weening even more to give it more time.

Its the oil, the moderators won't let me name the darned thing.

Switchman, when you say you slide into insomnia when you jump off Mirt ... what dose are you jumpimng off from??

      Hi, for me

My jump off point was at 1/4 of 15MG and I took this for 7 days.

My experience, unfortunately, is that GPs don't know enough about this drug. I saw my GP yesterday for something else and told her I was down to 3.75mg as part of the weaning process, she actually sniggered. Honestly their knowledge goes as far as reduce by available doses, then break in half, then finish. I'm so grateful for this forum, I've learned much more here than from my GP or pharmacist, and the mutual support is priceless.

      Hi Switchman

Right I understand, 3.75 then off ... too high I think.  I know its hard but if I were you, and I know I'm not (!) it may be wise to reinstate at that 3.75 last dose, and do a slow taper right down to 0.1 mg ... it means making a liquid, it isn't as difficult as folk think.  Click on my name and follow the links, the liquid method is there.

So do drops of 10% each time, if you get stuck with the suns give me a shout.

      Hope this might help.

I've had illicit drug addiction's in my youth Cannabis,Benzo's even Morphine,

W/d's from the Mirt has been harder than any class A drugs w/d.

When i was unsure what was going on and had no sleep the thought of being addicted to sleeping tablets was ok,

    Addict's are prescribe Methadone!

Mirt w/d's should be taken seriously and GP's should be treat patients accordingly.

      Hi, update

DOC office called and said they had open slot for me today.

This is my 14 day off the MIRT, have had to take 7 mg two times, that is two days is the longest I can go with out sleep, Have hade very little sleep and I have a very stressfull job and I relly need to get my sleep so that can focus, This go around I am not feeling the anxiety anxiousness and feeling of hopelessness like the first two times I tryed to come off the MIRT.  Like you I am cameing  to the reailization that I may need to take sleeping pills for the rest of my life, So sadddddddddddddddddd. The longist I have held out for sleep is 3 days, and that is when I start to go  down the black hole.
