Hi

I have just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have suffered many years with PMS and have taken Evening Primrose for a long time. I have recently tried agnus castus and magnesium ok none of which made me feel any better. I visited my doctor once more regarding my heavy periods, recurring migraines, tiredness and the general feeling of not being able to function any more. The diagnosis surprised me as I always associated an under active thyroid problem with having weight gain I have always been fairly slim and remain so although I do feel bloated since I began taking levothyroxine I always ate healthily drank soya milk that I believed would help my hormones. Two weeks into my treatment I still don't feel any better.

We have no family history of this disease although my mother has suffered heart disease and mini-strokes since tha age of 37 and my brother has suffered a severe form of fybromyalgia for many years. Does anyone have any advice or views? sad

    Hi

Two weeks into treatment is no time at all. Getting the right dose of levo is an ongoing problem. I have been on it for years and now out of the blue it's all gone wacky, again. My tests said I was over medicated so dose was reduced to 125 now they say I'm in the range but I know I'm not as I feel tired and have no get up and go, luckily I have a GP who realises that I know what I need so I have gone back up to 150 but it will be a month or more before I feel any better, mind you I'm not sure what it is to feel well, it's been so long !

So I'm afraid you are in for the long haul on this. My sister has been on Levo for about 30 years and she's still up and down, having to alter dose now and again.

Good luck, hope you feel some improvement soon. :D

    Thanks.

Maybe I should have more patience. Am feeling very low at moment. Have had to come home from work as I am feeling a bit strange and fuzzy headed. I feel as if my work colleagues feel as if i'm putting it on. Doctor has just increased my dose to 100mg per day.

Hope you feel better soon :D

Have you been to the medical topics on this site ? tons of info and experiences under Hypothyroidism. The more you can learn about this the better, makes it much easier to know what's going on and how to manage it.

Feeling fuzzy headed is a very common problem, some good days some bad.

    Keep smiling
