No white patches

Hi folks

After a visit to the dermatologist today, she advised me that I have all the symptoms of lichen sclerosis, except for the white patches. I have been given lotriderm cream and double base as a wash and moisturiser. Have any of you used this cream and does it take away the horrendous itching ?

I have been in some pain around the clitoris area and she told me that my clitoral hood is not where it is supposed to be and is lying flat. Have any of you experienced this as well? I am wondering if the steroid cream helped this ?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences with me x

I have never participated in any forums before and until a couple of weeks ago hadn't even thought of looking up to see if anyone else had my problem. That is Lichen Sclerosis of the vulva. I am not 66 years of age and I have had this problem for over 30 years (sorry to be discouraging!) Up until a year ago I used an Eumovate Steroid cream pretty regularly and having used it for so long it has made the skin very thin and it tears easily. My Gynie told me to use the baby cream Desitin instead as much as possible and to try to cut down on the Steroid cream. The Steroid cream works much better obviously so the past year I have found pretty hard. Over the past 6 months, all of a sudden, the problem has now become sore in one area. It has never been sore before, only itchy. I have been reading a lot about Lichen Sclerosis over the past couple of weeks and someone suggested using organic honey. Now after all these years I don't want to get too excited as I have only tried this 3 times so far but it appears to be giving me instant relief! The Desitin cream also works but it takes sometimes up to half an hour to feel better. I wanted to share this with the other readers. I am now going to try the recipe with castor oil and the essential oils, Lavender and Lemon Grass. Hope this works. Something else that I find helps is to rinse well after a shower with cool water, not hot and my gynie suggested drying the area with a hairdryer. The moistness seems to aggrivate the problem.

Thanks for sharing Jan.  Thirty years is a long time.  That is a lot of experience with LS.  My 'turn around' started with the baking soda baths and rinses, later the borax baths and rinses.  It deminished the use of the steroid cream.  For moisture I use coconut oil.  Next to a fairly strict diet - no added sugar, no alcohol, no gluten and limited dairy. And trying to avoid stress.

?This forum has been super helpful as well.  I'm 67. Probably had LS for much longer than when finally diagnosed.

I'm new to all this. I'm 40 and have just discovered I have LS. I'm scared of what it will mean for my relationship with my husband and my health. I'm using a steroid cream but it doesn't make a huge amount of difference. I've just started applying coconut oil and that has really helped. Considering trying lavender oil too. Can anyone reassure me that this condition won't mean the end of my relationship and well being?

Of course I can not give you any guarantee that your relationship will be unaffected by LS.  What has helped me is that I developed a very open communication with my partner.  Such, that he became my best support for me trying to cope with LS.  This didn't happen overnight, but with gradual understanding of where we each were standing with this.  Together we also were able to celebrate improvements.

?Sounds like you would be helped with baking soda or borax baths and rinses.

Thank you for your reply. I know there aren't any guarantees. It's just reassuring to hear that others have  to continue having relationships with this condition. I feel very alone and the thought that I won't be able to have a full relationship with my husband makes me feel even more isolated. It's just so hard to talk about the symptoms.

I am going to try the natural remedies as I am worried about using steroids for the rest of my life.

Have you got your symptoms under control?

Nicely under control.  Very rarely do I use just the tiniest amount of the steroid cream.

?I'm doing borax baths every other day (approx. 1/6 cup) and rinses after bathroom visits (3 pinches dissolved in  luke warm water in a Perin bottle)

?I try to stay away from added sugar (a sure trigger) and stress.

Really glad to hear all is going well for you. Where do you get the Borax from?

    Hi everyone,

I’m 28 and have just been diagnosed with LS, I am going to try use the natural combination that was suggested above with the Lavender oil and was wondering for anyone that found this proven, how many times a day did you need to apply it?

      Hi jess82434,

The oils stains and scent travel with you. You apply the oils as muchas need a spray bottle is recommended.

Many of these remedies does work. Baking soda is great to use in a site bath or shower.

      I hope this help

I was also diagnosed with LS.  I must have had it for 6 months before I found what it was on google search.

I was ashamed and upset and worried that I could get cancer.  However, my specialist told me that I may never get cancer (if I check myself) which we should do anyway.  I was given a biopsy and prescribed steroid cream which I was told by the specialist was safe to use on a regular basis for a few weeks daily then cutting down slowly and only using if I had an attack.  I use this cream once a week whether I have irritation or not.  I use my soaps but instantly use the feminine wash prescribed and sub it in each time I wash in that area.  I was told that LC does not mean that I have cancer but to check for lumps and bumps and ring asap if I have any.  You must do as the specialist says and use the creams.  Unfortunately, our bodies let us down through life and that is why we should look after them and respect them. I think I would get the specialist to prescribe something other than home remedy.  I was initially upset because I thought it was something I had done but no it isn't.  It is more likely hereditary.  After two months I was just back to normal and sex is on the list again.  Just take a little more time looking after yourself down there.  Treat your vagina with the respect that it deserves.  lol.  Please don't worry - you will not have the discomfort that you get at the beginning because as soon as it starts up you take care of it by having the steroid cream and it works quickly.

      Have a good life.

    Hi there,

I have been diagnosed with LS though I think I’ve had it for years over 8 yrs. I kept getting treated with recurrent thrush until I saw the white patches and googled my symptoms. I’d had lots of dr examinations but it was never picked up - I was quite angry.

Anyway after a while I stopped the steroid cream and looked at essential oils. I’d received doTERRA Salubelle free so tried that and it stops the itch almost instantly and my skin has turned back pink. It is expensive so when it runs out I’m just going to do the lavender/lemongrass and maybe frankincense mix with castor oil.

The salubelle lasts ages so I suppose it works out cheaper than steroid cream in the long run and it works far better.

      Hi All,

The steroid cream thins the skin, that’s what it’s does over a period of time and many doctors may not say.

The oils are great but it stains your clothings and the scent travel with you.

It was suggested from  hanny 32508 to try baking soda as a site bath, the soaking works. If you decide to use the baking soda in the shower its great also. It can be use to help exfoliate the skin. I hope this helps.

      HiIt

      Hi Ana,

Yes the Salubelle works for me. I applied it every day at the start and then dropped to maybe once a month or fortnight. As soon as I can feel the itch starting I put a little on neat just use the roller on my fingers and apply. I've not found that it leaves any stains on my clothing. But like i said, it's quite expensive so i'm going to try the oil mix myself. If using essential oils I would make sure you are buying the pure oils - I know there are some cheaper versions and maybe it's these that stain clothes.

I find that if i use any soaps or body washes it aggravates it. I liked using soaps on the rest of my body but found that the soapy water still managed to aggravate my LS even though i didn't wash my vagina with the soap - i was using aqueous cream instead. I've since started using microfibre cloths with just water. The ones i use are Sante by ENJO (I am an ENJO consultant). To be honest I was a bit skeptical at first - not using soap but these body fibres work amazingly and are so much more gentle on my skin. They have an exfoliator on one side and cleanser on the other. The exfoliator side is making my skin so incredibly soft. I then apply moisturiser to my body and get the scent that way, that way I can ensure nothing will irritate my LS. I would never have believed that you can use just water and be just as clean!

I don't like using the steroid cream as I found that my skin was so thin and sensitive that it would tear every time I had sex. The essential oils are definitely better for me.

      Hi Nicholas,

i apologize for for the late response, my internet service kept being interrupted. I did find the doTerra  Salubelle. The Terra looks like a roll on, you may have to administer this product as it suit you. I haven’t purchase the product yet. Although, we all may have this “itch monster” our experiences may differ.

Using any relief methods depends on the individuals and this LS isn’t an one approach, it’s what work for comfort.

Sometimes, my LS doesn’t bother me at all and when it starts it feel like nothing works. Sometimes, when I sit to long and when I get up, here comes the “itch”.

On Amazon, they sell a cooling seat for LS that I will be purchasing. I’m not advertising, But all information counts. I hope this helps
