no zop = no sleep

Been on zopiclone for 7 or 8 years now due to insomnia from working shift work and nights. Although I only work 2 overnight shifts a week now (I'm 65 semi retired) I still need 3.75 mg of zopiclone. Would really like to go off them permanently but feel I would have to give up working night shifts altogether. As I tend to be a night owl and stay up late when I am off, day shift is not an option. Last night I tried 3mg of melatonine and after 3 or 4 hours of not being able to sleep I caved and took my usual 3.75 mg of zop and got a few hours of sleep. I know 3.75 mg is not a lot but it seems to be enough to get 5 or 6 hours of sleep when I take it. Just wish there was a way I didn't have to depend on it every night. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
