Nocturnal panic attacks

Hi, newbie here but i have been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for many years. Lately, I am waking up about 2 hours after I fall asleep, with a severe panic attack. Does this happen to anyone else here? What do you do when you wake up and panic? I have Xanax, but lately I feel like I am taking it every night and I know it’s very addictive. My cardiologist suggested that I take metropolol , as it will slow down my heart rate and blood pressure since they both rise when I have a panic attack. Anyone else in this situation? i do not have any heart issues by the way.

what I used to do was have a meditation for panic ready to go just in case it happened to me in the middle of the night.

there are some on YouTube that actually talk you through the attack and they work really well. They incorporate proper breathing for panic which is the key to reducing the heart rate and calming you down.

during the day you can listen to some of them and pick one or two that you really like. I just get them on my iPad before bed and all I have to do is click to start them. Plus you won’t have to take Xanax every night. I hope this helps! take care
