Non-stop muscle twitching and "running ants" feeling

Hello everyone,

it will soon be a year since this problem of mine started and nobody has yet found a solution to it, so I thought I have nothing to lose by asking here.

Around April last year I started getting muscle twitches. Out of nowhere. It continued for a month, until I finally went to doctor about it, no fun when your fingers get all jumpy when you sit still, or your muscles twitch so much it wakes you from your sleep. It's pretty unplesant when there's muscles moving under your skin all the time. In the thigh, in the leg, in the finger, in the neck... I think I even had it in the eye once. I so much wish it would just stop.

Doctor said it was a lack of magnesium, but a few months later the problem persisted, and a new sensation developed in my left shoulder blade - the warm buzzy "running ants feeling". I moved to another country, so went to another doctor there. That doctor stated that my neck is very stiff and asked if I suffer from migraine, which I don't think I do. They said I should try exercising a bit more - it should exhaust the muscles so they don't have the energy to twitch. They also prescribed going to a physiotherapist, which is a pretty expensive procedure to me, so I am still hesitating. In the meantime, the muscle twitching has subsided to a few times a day, however, the "running ants feeling" became more frequent. Exercise doesn't seem to alter it that much...

Other minor problems I have that might be related to this are heart rhythm problems in the evening and inability to stay in a bent-down position for more than a few minutes (gives me a terrible headache and dizzyness), I also suffer from obsessive thoughts, really often (I mention this since I have heard that psychological health matters a lot when it comes to muscle twitching) If someone could comment on this I would be really grateful. Doctors say they can't do anything about it, but they didn't really think of checking my nerves - maybe there's a pressed nerve, or something?

Did you find out what it was? Are you doing ok?

"Running ants" is chi/energy moving down your meridian system. Western doctors won't know what to look for.  If it's still happening, which is likely, find the spot on your body, and then cross reference this with an acupuncture meridian chart.  You'll be able to determine which organ is the problem.  You'll then want to find foods that strengthen that organ, and you'll want to detox that organ, as it's clogging up.

Hi I had a lot of the same symptoms and felt like I should write you. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Rheumatologist had to diagnose me. It was a long processes of elimination. But with fibro. You normally have more then one autoimmune disease. I had fibromyalgia, I.c. of the bladder, I.B.S., endometriosis, E.e. esophagus, restless leg syndrome, and more... I was told they all go hand and hand... When you have one you normally have a few others. You have good days and bad. The weather especially cold weather hurts to the bone some days. Rain and humidity also effects me. Stress and anxiety are big triggers. I also have neuropathy. They ruled out M.S... Highly recommended checking into this. Write back if you have questions. I hope this helps you. I remember how it was just wanting answers so I could just feel better.

I hope that you get this as it has been a long time. You may have akasthasia and ropinerol gets rid of it.

Hello. I know it has been years since this post. I wanted to know if you figured out what happened to you if not I think you may have had Guillian Barre Syndrome the variant form AMAN.  It causes muscle twitching gastroparesis and heart issues. You can have a mild form like you felt under the weather or the flu. Can be caused by vaccines or after surgery or after infection or the the flu.  If you don’t get tested within months of the illness there is no way to test for it later. It attacks your peripheral nerves causing numbness tingling weakness. I had it last year it was terrible. And I had some of your symptoms. Good luck I hope you are feeling better.

Ask the doctor to check your A1c level. This will tell you if your sugars have been abnormal and for how long. High sugars can cause that feeling and twitching in legs.

All of these symptoms col also be due to B6 toxicity. Most B Complex vitamins and mutivitamins have way over the RDA for B6 and too much B6 can cause muscle fatigue, spasms,

twitching, numbness, tingling, anxiety, and more. B6 is often added to drinks, cereals, granola bars. Some people get toxic without taking vitamins. B6 can be stired in your muscle and tissue. Even if your blood value is normal you can have symptoms. Usually they are different after stopping supplementing.

i wonder if you have Lyme disease. my MGUS came about two years after my treatment for Lyme. My Oncologist believes that my IGg elevation is caused by a chronic infection-lyme disease. Im starting treatment for Lyme again in a couple of days.

Years after Lyme diagnosis i started having nerve pain, itching, light headedness (dysautonomia), terrible head aches that are usually in my back of my neck and back of my head.

    Just a thought...

mine Started with muscle spasm in back a week ago. Then a day later, foot started having some nerve sensations + Pain in neck and shoulders.

Later, Nerve tingling and twitching started to move up legs.

Currently twitching throughout body, though legs are still where it happens most. Strange nerve sensations in legs, Intermittent numbness in hands and feet, muscle cramps at various points in the body.

This is extremely scary and I cannot sleep.

It is kinda worse when I rest as I am more aware of these symptoms then.

I am a 35 years old (otherwise) healthy woman and am about to lose it.

they checked my chemical panel (e.g., electrolytes) and nothing was off.
