Normal BP but high pulse rate
Posted , 3 users are following.
My blood pressure is normal but my heart rate is pretty high usually between the 80s and up to about 115. I have heard exercise is the best way to lower your heart rate. Is it safe to workout with a high resting heart rate? I'm usually pretty active with cardio but have been taking a break for the past few months. I would love to get back into it but just wanted to make sure this is actually safe to do. Any tips would be great, thanks in advance! I apologize that this may be posted in the wrong group, I couldnt find one for heart rate.

As with any activity you will be much better off starting gently and building up.
I can only advise on running as that's my main activity but as a start I'd recommend you check out the NHS Couch to 5k plan, google is your friend here as links get held up by the moderators. (Other search engines are available). It starts with a very gentle opening of 5 minutes walking followed by alternating 1 minute of running followed by 1 and a half walking over 20 minutes and builds up over 9 weeks to 30 minutes running.
I'd also recommend seeking out a local running group, a bit of peer pressure and support is always helpful and depending on the size of the group they may have a coach who can help with training plans.
If you are in the UK there is almost definitely a Park Run near you, these are free to enter (you need to register on their web portal, again google or other search engine) and run on saturday mornings for all ages and abilities and by all accounts very welcoming.
As with all advice I ever offer on here though I would stress I AM NOT A DOCTOR and you should check with your GP or cardiologist before starting any activity.

although I am now a lot older than you in my 70`s my current illness is tied up when years ago I too noticed a high heart rate, but when raising it with my GP he was not concerned. I increased my excise program and then forgot about it. after 15 years I noticed a increase in breathless. To cut a long story short I developed atrial fibrilation. Go and see your GP and ask for a cardiological report.

leeluhduh...before getting back into running, the best thing to do is to consult your doctor. In the meantime, if you drink a fair amount of coffee, tea, colas or energy drinks...cut them down...Caffeine is known to increase heart rate. I'm not saying to cut them out altogether, but do cut them down.

jason1098...before you go criticizing me for 'repeating' myself...I did not repeat myself. The system saw fit to duplicate my response for whatever reason. This isn't something I can control.

It wasn't a criticism, it was a joke. Sadly I don't appear to have smileys on my forum portal since the last upgrade so for future reference if you wonder whether I'm being critical or worse then I'm not.
When I am there is no cause to wonder, it is fairly unequivocal.

jason1098...Ok, fine..but you must remember, we cannot hear the tone of voice on these sites. A smiley can be made such as..... 😃 a frown is.... 😦
There you have it.

jason1098...further...I see that my symbol turned into a smiley face.
Just make a colon, then an ( You'll then have a smiley. For a frown, make a colon then a closed quotation mark.
