normal healing from bunion surgery

I am 4 weeks into recovery from bunion surgery where I had 2 screws put in. I am taking the cast off today, but am really nervous about the screws. My foot is still swollen and I have some burning on the incision sight. Also, I feel like I feel the screws constantly. Has anyone else had this issue and if so what did you?

Oh and from what I hear swelling is something that we might be dealing with for some time but that dose not make it any less annoying just take things slow and keep your foot elevated whenever possible and keep iceing it put the ice pack behind your knee the burning feeling in the incision is normal I also get that feeling in my toes

Thank you for your feedback. I am suppose to go into a sneaker next week. I haven't walked without the boot yet and today I am.suppose to cut my cast off and actually wash my foot that I had surgery on. I haven't actually stood on this foot without the boot yet and am a little nervous to take a shower and have my foot down. Any suggestions on this? My doctor told me to do this before I come see him today and am hoping I don't hurt anything. I am sure I am overreacting, but I do not want a set back.

I know, I try to convince myself that it will go away, but it only makes me.focus more. The doctor told me if I press I will be able to feel the bott, which again does not.make it better. I am hoping I can walk normal again and not be in pain more now than before I had the surgery.

The burning is normal, it's all of your nerves waking up and healing. There's a large nerve in the exact incision spot that my surgeon said he had to move over during the procedure. For me, that burning lasted like a week or so and now at six weeks the burning is gone.

I just started walking after being non weight bearing, and it kind of isn't pleasant. I'm walking in the aircast boot and I've tried walking barefoot. I would just suggest to you to be prepared for your foot and your ankle to be very sore. Being barefoot makes it more sore. I'm not sure if I 'feel' the screws, but it definitely feels like a pressure on the middle of my foot. The way that I've been doing is it to walk with the assistance of a cane because it allows me to put some weight on the foot but not all my weight. Kind of like easing my foot into it. That might help you get used to the screws.

Thank you so much for your reply. I went to the doctor today and he said that he can tell I was over doing it at home and have to be take a step back. So he cushioned and wrapped my foot back up again. I am 4 1/2 weeks in. So hopefully at 6 weeks things will seem more normal.

Hang in there it will get better, I had scarf and akins proceedure on my right foot. At 16 weeks I was able to walk 4 miles and work 60% of my hours. I didn't return to work till 14 weeks and then with a phased return.

At the stage you are at I thought I would never be able to do these things it comes gradually. Unfortunately I fractured my 1st metatarsal so have been in a walker boot for 5 1/2 weeks now but, I just wanted to reassure you that it does get better.

I suffered from feeling the screws to I think you kind of get used to it and forget they are there after a while. Hope this helps,
