nortriptyline - quitting? Withdrawel and losing the weight

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am wondering if anyone else put on weight while taking nortriptyline and how long it took to come off.

I put on about 15 pounds while taking nortriptyline and also during surgery recovery. I stopped taking it when I realized that it was aggravating my on and off episodes GERD but realize now that it's probably partially the cause of my weight gain. I took it for about a year, starting out at 10mg and going up to 20mg and back down to 10 before I quite. I've been watching my diet closely. Normally I would have lost some weight by now, but the weight hasn't budged.

I have been taking nortriptyline for 8 months and have put on a stone in weight I am coming off it slowly firstly from 30mg a day to 20 mg for 2weeks then 10mg for 2weeks but I don’t think this is long enough as I have been having withdrawal side effects I.e vertigo feeling sickness palpitations and so I went to doctors to see what I should do she said I should maybe go back on it 10 mg a day for a week then 10 mg every o5her day and reduce it like that I wasn’t told that to start with and I k ow everyone’s is different so reacts to withdrawal symptoms differently but if this is what it’s like being on the heavy drugs and coming off them then there is no way I will get involved with drugs it’s horrible . I have to ring my doctor again tomorrow n 7 days to see how I am doing and what’s happening with my migraines to as for the weight well I am not a big eater anyway and see if I do loose any
