Wow poor you that's not good, I would ring your rheumatology dept and ask for advice I think, this medication can be amazing for some people and not others, I can't take it as my body doesn't like it at all

unfortuntely this medication suits some people, but has serious side effects on others and it sounds as if you are one of those. I havent taken MTX yet, but was taking hydroxychloroquine and managed over 6 weeks, but then had to stop it as I was feeling so ill.
I think you need to contact the rheumatology department to let them know what is happening, which is what I did. I hope you feel better soon. x

Hi shirker, I am on methotrexate & occasionally prednisone. I also take folic acid. I believe the folic acid is to prevent sores in the mouth & throat.

Methotrexate is taken once a week on same day. We take folic acid on the other 6 days and never on day we take meth. This is because folic acid can cause the meth to not work so well if taken same day. We take folic acid for various reasons but mainly because it can lessen the bad side effects of the methotrexate. So its important you take them. Hope I have explained myself well. X

Ok I will, I have been on methotrexate for a couple of months and the side effects are indeed proving too much, my hairs thinning, lumps and bumps on the palms of my hands have appeared recently and to top it off I had a phone call from the hospital on Friday to say I have to come off it as my enzymes are up in my liver, such scarey stuff, I asked where do I go from here and she says they will put me on a lower dose when my liver back to normal, I don't think I want it anymore to be honest X god I hate this disease, I have had no pain or symptoms of RA in almost 4 months now but I did have a steroid injection on diagnosis so that should be wearing off now

As others have posted, you should contact your MD so they are aware of side effect and they will determine if you need to stop the med / try something else
I felt much worse on the MTX--pain much worse and in new joints---I read you could spread the # of pills on the day you take MTX over the course of the day but still only on the given day of the drug. It helped a lot but I never got past 4 pills when I ran a temp 101.8/ chills and felt horrible. So I am back on just 3 pills until I start Humira. Scary to think about that drug and all the potential side effects but this awful disease requires powerful medication
Hope they can find something that works for you. Trial and error seems to be how it is treated as each of us reacts differently . And yes, this is so difficult to cope with but hang in there. They will find the right med for you in time.
