Yes it's peri related. I had it for about 10 years so far and like you minty things hurt my tongue.
They never used to I've used the same brand of toothpaste for 15 years and it was ok. It's a natural one and at one time I kept asking my husband and daughter if they noticed the company had made it stronger.
I hate extra strong mints but they became my friend as they were the only thing that gave me a bit of a break from the horrible taste for a while also peppermint tea I have never liked that either but it does help sometimes.
I went through the peri with saying the taste was slightly metallic. Then after meno it changed a bit to more lemony taste but still so annoying because 10 to 15 minutes after eating or drinking it's back.
I have started HRT about 8 weeks ago but I still have the slight lemony taste most of the time.
I've still got a sensitive tongue too also very dry and thirsty all the time I've been checked for diabetes and the test came back normal.
Along with the sensitive and dry tongue came dry eyes.
The HRT has improved my eyes a lot. I thought it was disagreeing with me because my eyes felt funny right from the first day on it but I think it was just where I'd got so used to them being that way that feeling normal now felt strange. So I am wondering if the HRT will improve the nasty taste as I had that a while before my eyes but not quite as long as the dry thirsty mouth.
Hope this helps.

I also have a metallic taste in my mouth on and off and a burning tongue most of the time. I have dealt with this for about 4 years now and have just recently been diagnosed to be in peri. Currently I am waiting for my period to start. This is the first time that I am going longer, so far my cycles have only been shorter (26-24) and I am 44 going on 45 in April.
I have not figured out what will eliminate the bad taste or burning.
Just like you I also feel that everything is a struggle and I have aged 30 years. Fortunately I only have a 17 year old son left living with me at home. My other two are grown and live on their own. I can only imagin how difficult it must be for you with younger children still at home expecting you to be on duty all the time. Hang in there - xx

I tried giving up tea and coffee and was drinking green or white tea with a slice of lemon.
I had my last period a week before my 52nd birthday.
About halfway through that year I had this awful strange smell about me (I worried that I must have cancer or something). It was so bad at one point that while I was bathing I could still smell it (smelled like something I can't describe like the taste) and I decided if it continued I'd have to see the doctor. Luckily only lasted about 8 days and right after that the taste changed to lemony. My hot flushes also stopped then and I became just generally hotter all the time.
I also suffered with low energy and I think that peaks just before your one year period free is up. I went shopping with my daughter a few times and ended up sitting in a cafe waiting for her (really not like me at all as I love shopping with her).
My daughter (22) has just asked me to join her in a get fit plan and I'm really not up for it.
I did used to enjoy keeping fit but I have been really lazy about it all since about your age now.
I don't know if the HRT will help with these things. I'm really going it will.
Both the taste and energy had improved somewhat before I began HRT.
Hope this helps.

My biggest annoyance is sweating. I have had this for at least 20 yrs. My mother had the same thing. From the onset of her menopause until her death at 79.
Did anyone have this, and did HRT help? Also, pain with intercourse, so painful, I do not have intercourse for past 2 years.
Thank you,

The tongue thing I had also it started with rubbing my tongue side to side and gradually got worse until I was trying to push the bottom teeth out. It has now gone back to rubbing them.
Intercourse became more comfortable and enjoyable at around 5 weeks into HRT.
My dry mouth and thirst have yet to change.
If you are not worried about trying HRT then I would say go for it. I decided to try it for 6 months or so. lol now I'm worrying that i will have to give it up in 5 years time.
Not all HRT is the same. If you just go and ask the chances are you will be given one containing horse urine. These are well known to be badly tolerated and also the ones that caused the cancer scare in the trials.
Ask for Oestrogel and Utrogestan as recommended by Professor John Studd. This is plant derived and bioidentical and the estrogen part is transdermal so missing the liver and digestive system. Good luck!

I also lost two bottom teeth basically they just crumbled and broke got filled then kept breaking until there was nothing else that could be done for them.
