hi i thought i'd write and give you my experiences with regards prolapsed discs. my first one was L4/L5 left and right prolapse that left me unable to stand straight and could only walk like an oap with a walking stick, my doctor refused to accept it was anything other than back ache which half the population suffer with. after 9 months i could stand no more and swithced doctor, he then sent me for lots of tests and i had surgery leaving me pain free yay.

4 months after surgery i was walking up the stairs and got an excrutiating pain in my back and leg and the leg gave way, this was disc L5/S1 gone. after everything i ended up with another operation followed by 2 root nerve blocking injections, during the second one the surgeon caught my nerve and am now permenatly left with a numb leg and foot that feels like an electric shock if touched.

now im due to see my surgeon again in 3 weeks because the pain has become unbearable again, even morphine doesnt seem to help, i have been told following the last op that if it goes again i will have to have the lower back fused.

is there anyone out there who has been through bone fusion who can give me some ideas of what to expect then please could you let me know, thankyou pip x
