not allowed cocodamol?

so yesteday i went into my local lloyds pharmacy and asked for a box of co codamol, and they wouldnt sell them to me!

im 19 so am legally able to buy them so this wasnt an age issue.

i simply asked for a box and the woman asked me \"what are they for\" so i told her my reason (sore throat, glands up and pain when swallowing, feeling hot) basically a typical bad throat and cough.

so she goes behind the counter to talk to the chemist and when she comes back she tells me \"well they wont actually work for that\" and shows me two other completely different products!

then 30 minutes later when i got to my job that afternoon i asked a colleague if she had any, which she did, took a dosage of 2 co codamol and within 40 minutes my glands had gone down a bit, my throat didnt hurt as much and i wasnt all hot and felt loads better.

i just cant believe this chemist lady tells me they wont work for my throat, when ive been taking them over 3 years now whenever my throat gets bad, and they always help me. but ive heard from a few people now that other shops are beginning to do this aswell, which in my opinion is wrong, what if the reason you need them is personal, and you then have to stand in the middle of a shop and talk about it?

im not someone who is addicted to them, and its not like i was trying to buy a big box, just a small box of 32. i only ever take them if i have a bad headache or for my throat when i cant stop coughing.

it just seems wrong they can suddenly not sell you something that is an over the counter medicine just because they think you reason isnt good enough.

grrrrrrrrrrrr!

That's ridiculous, codeine is a cough suppressant and paracetamol reduces fever. I cannot think of a reason she would think them unsuitable!

The co-codamol I use is only available on prescription. Use a different name for the pills. You may have to ask for Codeine and Paracetamol capsules.

There is now stricter laws regarding the over

    the counter medications especially codeine

Containing products due the rise in OTC

Addiction! I know how you feel as I'm always questioned when I want to buy anything

    With codeine......they should have asked

you into the side room before they asked

you personal questions, I find most of the

staff (that are NOT trained pharmacists)

tend to be really rude and refuse the sale

    BEFORE speaking to the pharmacist.

When buying in future I find that if you

Say they are for back pain they sell them

But have to still tell you the risks.

    Hope this helps!

    Kate.
