Stumbled across this forum (thank god) would like to know if you think i have been suffering from Globus, a term I didn't even know existed until yesterday. for a couple of years i have had the feeling that i need to clear my throat and produced excess of phlemg (sorry). In 2007 i was in hospital having a cyst removed from my neck i assumed it was something related to the operation.

In January this year i was ill for two weeks on the 19th I spat blood this scared me, i went to the doctors she didn't seem concerned but sent me for a chest x ray, this was clear.

For the last 8 weeks i have felt as though i had something stuck in my throat around the adams apple, the slightest irration made me cough and my eyes run. I also felt at times that my throat was constricting and a fluttry feeling would occur occasionally.

I had two further doctors visits due to shows of blood very small amounts but very frightening. like other people on this forum i feared the worst throat cancer or something sinister.

Yesterday i went to ENT had my nose and mouth examined and then a camera up my nose and down the throat. everything was fine? despite the blood the doctor seemed to say i was fine, he mentioned reflux but i dont suffer from hartburn? to be sure he as arranged a scan. i then came across GH on this forum i relate to most of the symptoms but with no official diagnosis. I feel better just knowing that it may be stress related although i cant pin point the cause of the stress

Do you think i may have GH[/list]

I had a wisdom tooth extracted 7 years ago, I had an injection to numb the tooth, within 2 weeks the numbness was still there. A feeling of a lump in the throat. went back to the Dentist, he assured me that it was not the result of the injection. Within 2 months I had seen an ENT specialist, had a barium swallow. could not find a thing. I thought I must have throat cancer. My husband tells me I make terrible noises when I am asleep, I wake up feeling awful, I feel that I want to cough up phlem, but nothing. My shoulders are always tense, I find it hard to breathe. Went to the Doctor on 4th October, about a lump under my earlobe, she asked me how I am feeling, apparently the lump is a gland, which she says will go away. I was telling her about my LUMP in my throat, she mentioned GH, I had never heard of it. I came home and googled GH, couldnt believe there are other people suffering the same symptoms as me !. I thought I was going mad with the symptoms, I even think my husband thinks its all in the mind ! . They says this is someone who is anxious, I wouldnt say I was one of those people. Is there a group for GH sufferers ? Please dont tell me I have got to put up with this for the rest of my life, it seems to be getting worse.

Steward and P Stonebridge there is nothing to worry about because you more likely do suffer from GH and if you it is fixable. For the past 3 years i have been suffering from it and I had the back forth doctor visits because I was convinced I was ill. I had chest xray, barium swallow and endoscopy and I still was convinced I was sick. I was just being anxious and paranoid. I even ended up going to the ER a couple of weeks ago due to a panic attack but also to have this thing checked once and for all. I had the same tests with the same results. I am completely physically healthy as you probably are as well.

The power of the mind is amazing. It can be healing or extremely detrimental. Facing GH is hard and it can convince you that you are sick of all sorts of things, I know, it took me 3 years to believe I was not. Ask yourself how anxious am I?

From these forum I gather it fades away for most but some us have a deeper underlying cause, ranging from trauma or just fear of fear itself. If it is not fading away then it is a manifestation of anxiety.

I have not healed myself yet but I am in the process of evaluating this. My main advice is to not worry, take matters into your own hands by evaluating the situation and most importantly dont let fear overcome you and consume you like it did to me.

In reply to your concern, no you dont have to put it up for the rest of your life. The fear is perpetuating itself and it will continue to do so. Based on my experience I have had months where it lessened where I could eat almost allright and then I would succumb for other periods. Honestly in hindsight I realize there is a direct correlation with anxiety. What I have found extremely helpful in reducing levels of anxiety is to exercise, sleeping adequately, protein shakes, meditation and eating disorders anonymous (EDA) has helped too. You can basically join any group even if its something like EDA which targets anorexics and bulimics majority of the information is applicable, since they talk mostly about anxiety.
