Not loosing weight yet 2 months after band fitted and 4ml

Posted , 7 users are following.

So I had my band fitted just over two Months ago, during the liquid stage I lost 10lbs and was really happy. When I started eating again I slowly gained more weight and now I am back to my starting weight.

I only have two stone to loose in total so it's not a lot, I have already had two band fills and I am now upto 4ml.

The company I had it done with keep telling me to eat my food from a side plate etc but I feel like I wouldn't have paid all this money and gone through surgery if I had the willpower to do it without help and this band isn't doing much atall.

I am very hopeful with time and more fills it will work for me.

I would love to hear others experiences of when you started to loose weight etc. also I am wondering if it will be less effective as I only have two stone to loose?

Any tips welcome. I would say I know I am still eating chocolate etc and I know if I cut that out then I could loose weight but like I said if I had the willpower I wouldn't have had this done.

I am worried it might all of been for nothing sad

    Helloo

Your in the same position as I was, I only have 2 maybe 2 and half stone to lose, and yea it is gonna take longer for us because we are not as big as the usual weight that this is used for.

I didn't feel any restriction at 4ml either and I was only 2 pound under my starting weight.. I went to have another fill 11th July and it was only an extra ml so I now have 5ml and I can absolutely tell the difference! My portions are loads smaller, I rarely feel hungry and slowly the pounds are coming off.. I think 1 more ml and I will be in what they call the sweet spot where you are eating the right amount. Just keep going with the fills and it does get better.

My fill nurse just says don't eat saucey food make sure what your eating is stodgy food and U will eat less of it because it will sit above your band rather than wash through with the liquid. Same with drinking while eating wait for about 20-30mins until you drink.

    Best of luck

To be truthful, the fact that you have so little to lose makes me think you shouldn't of even bothered with the operation. I don't mean this disrespectfully, but would have cheaper to join a gym. If food is your weakness ( as it is for so many of us) then the gym would help anyway. Pay up front for a year membership and you won't want to waste the money. 2 stone isn't too much, I'm sure you can do it.

For some of the people who need to lose less weight than others it tends to be a medical situation like myself, as im insulin resistant due to having PCOS and an average meal size was too much no matter my activity, I found myself gaining a stone every 5 weeks. I had the op before I could get any larger, because it is difficult to not eat an average of 3 normal sized meals a day when you have 0 energy because of an illness. I tried the healthy eating and gym and it felt like I was starving myself even 5 months down the line. I needed something physical to help me and the doctor agreed that it was necessary for my situation. it isn't so simple for some people

    Hi Billie,

Thank you for your reply, it's good to know I'm not the only one in this position. How much weight have you lost since your last band fill? And when will you have another fill?

It has been making me really upset, so it's good to hear similar stories which have stated to go positively. When did you have your band fitted?

I think what had been making me upset is that my surgeon and the team where I had it done keep taking about having only a side plate of food which I've been doing but it doesn't fill me up then I snack afterwards.

Well hopefully I will get another band fill soon smile

I went from 14st and I am now 12st10 which isn't a massive amount but like I said, less to lose longer to lose unfortunately, and I haven't been doing much activity with it either, I have just joined to a gym so hopefully will see it speed up even a little bit. And I have my next fill booked for 15th August.

And yes it is very frustrating when you have no restriction I was there not so long ago thinking my band had slipped or something because it didn't seem to work.

I think soon as you get another fill you should feel better everyone is different with fills but being so similar to my weight goal you may be the same with fill size too.

If I want to snack I tend to just go for fruit and yogurt and a drizzle of honey. Just keep the fat content and calories down, you will get there.

    Hi Greg,

I can understand your point of view and 2 stone sounds a very small amount but I have struggled with my weight for so many years, I have lost all the weight I wanted to but always put it all back on and gained again. So I wanted to do this for long term weight loss and maintenance.

    Hi Katy,

First of all let me say that I don't think your reasons for having the operation have been thought through properly. You seem to have had the expectation that the band would completely take over the responsibility of your weight control and allow you to carry on with an unsuitable diet without further problems. You don't give any idea of your age, diet (except chocolate), activity level or health but in general two stones would have come off easily if you would have cut out all junk food, raised your level of activity and organized a balanced healthy diet. The hard truth is that YOU have got to take the responsibility for what you put into your mouth and until you do, you will fighting this battle all through your life. What you need to do is reprogram your taste buds to accept less sugar and less fat. Start slowly by cutting down sugar in tea or coffee, change your breakfast cereal to something more healthy, eat fruit instead of cakes and biscuits, eat chicken fish pasta etc.  Do it slowly and don't go on any harsh diets. As you have already found out, if you feel hungry you snack, so eat a banana or an apple or orange instead of reaching for the chocolate. I lost two stones in four months in 1992 and it has never gone back on.

    Best of luck... Alex

I think what we need to be asking are those people Who have not lost weight with the gastric band? I feel that a lot of this has been a publicity drive to sell the product.. I have had a band since 2010 post port flip.. And lot very little. About 5kg overall 12kg..in 6 yrs..but my stomach has shrunk.. I also watch the carbs carefully which can still be pushed down.. Things like custard and ice cream which is loaded with sugar..I have a main meal once a day high proteins for breakfast.. I love mash so this is my treat each day taken anyway..it is a slow process. My surgeon said I had a large gut so was never having a feeling of fullness.

HI KATY - 2MTHS post op is still very early days for you and there is still lots of scope for fills to get you up to that ultimate level of restriction - this took approx 6 fills over a period of a year for me personally so in the meantime you need to practice healthy eating habits - the band will not stop you eating choc and other unhealthy options - that is something you must do with yoru own will power - the band is not amagic wand - just a tool to aid wgt loss which you must work with - at the min you have very little liquid in yr band so it will not be working ot its full potential so this is where you have to work hard in order to lose wgt - the band is also very gradual compared ot other types of wgt loss surgery but hang on in there and you will get there eventually - protein based foods such as meat, cheese, eggs etc will keep you feeling fuller for longer so eat these first then if you can manage any thing else eat the veges and last of all eat the carbs such as pots, pasta etc - things like dry meat and fish which may be ok at the min cos you dont have much in yr band, will eventually be problematic for you but foods like sheps pie, chilli, fish pie, spag bol, lasagne, quiche etc will be better cos the meat is softer - were you told not to e at and drink at the same time as this will wash the food straight through?    By eating from a side plate means you would be inclined to eat smaller portions and this is their way of encouraging you to do so i should think - its a massive learning curve and the band will not improve yr willpower - that is soemthing you have to overcome yourself  - the band will just restrict your portion size and help you feel fuller on a smaller meal but what you put in that meal or in your mouth between meals is down to yourself so if you eat choc then that is gonna hamper your progress - 2 st is not a massive amount to lose but if its a prob to you then thats a good enough reason to get help which is what  you have done with the band - its all very well saying eat less and move around more - we all know what we should do but its putting it all into practice which is the difficult part as I know only too well - once you get some more  fills sometimes the smallest amount can make the biggest difference and each time you might find a difference into what you can manage to eat compared to the time before - a good place to get info on this subject is WLSinfo if you care to google it - there are also books on the subject which you could get from your library or how about joining a support group in yr area if there are any as you could talk to people face to face who have already walked in your shoes - good luck
