Thanks to June for the Diphenhydramine hydrochloride tip, saw the pharmacist yesterday and he gave me some, took 2 at 11pm went to bed,  woke at 3.30 am  then back to sleep until 7.30 am, felt A LOT better today and no side effects or drowsiness,

so consider it well worth a try if you can tollerate it.  its only a short term fix i know, but a nights sleep was so nice!

will be having another dose tonight,  sleep tight everyone

I get this problem too - my solution is to take myself off to the spare room, where the bed has a very firm mattress and it's much cooler both of which seem to help me.

My other problem was needing to pee every hour - got this back to every 2 hours or so now - is this normal?  Is it the meds?  I am only on blood thinners now.

Lol. It's age rocketman. No, seriousĺy i don't know why we pee more. I have been sleeping on my non operated side since day 6. Much easier now on day 12 and wound has healed. Put a pillow between your legs making sure operated leg is spported from hip to toes. Also a pillow in front of you so you don't turn onto your stomach and make sure your operated leg does not go infront of your good leg.

Easy peasy. I can do 2 hours like this and it relieves the pressure on my back

      Take care

I'm 25 just had my right hip replaced 6 days ago. Experiencing same thing with sleeping. Laying on back is so uncomfortable. I am able to sleep some laying on my non-operated side with a THICK pillow between my legs. But only for a few hours. One thing I have done to help is I cut out my dose of tylonal before bed and take a dose of NyQuil. Done this a couple nights now and get about 7-8 hours of straight sleep. Only really way I have found. Cause on top of laying on back I am wearing the DVT pressure cuffs around both my calves and they are pretty noisy.

      hi james -

welcome to this wonderful forum of hippies ...

From your post I am assuming that you are in the U.S.A.?

No NyQuil here in the Netherlands ... Darn it ....

How are you doing otherwise ?

      Big warm hug

So far so good. Have done 2 physical therapy sessions. The last one which was yesterday for for 2

Hours. And they had me lifting weights on leg curls and leg extensions and doing a bunch of squats and all different types of exercises. Kicked my butt. Really feeling the soarness today. And yes am located in the USA. That blows they don't have NyQuil where you are.

It takes a while before you can sleep on the 'cut' side ... sadly neither can I yet.  You will have to gradually build up to being able to spend all night on your side though.  I am going through all this for the second time in 12 weeks now - I had to have revision on mine after 10 weeks due to a surgical error.
