Not so straightforward

Hi I'd like some advice on excercise.  Other than swimming/cycling &walking, what would you recommend for me?  I've had a tkr and cannot do any impact execises.  I want to tone up as well as lose some weight but feel restricted.

    Hi deaver,

the three you mentioned probably going to be least impact for you. have you thought of a gym? I wasn't too keen when I got a referral from my GP before a THR, but the trainer at the gym was great, she had had health problems herself and was qualified to train people with dodgy hips and knees. She advised me which exercises/equipment would be best. Would be good for overall toning, I think. Gyms are boring though!

as jeanp says: the gym might be an idea. a way round the boring bit might be eg to do a class such as pilates or yoga or power stretch.

or...to be more sustainable, start an activity that is not just exercise for the sake of exercise eg gardening?

Thank you both, I will look into a Gym.

My GP practice advertises a referral system for people with Hip/Knee replacements to get them some sports assistance, might try that.

if they've got a referral system, then go for that, becasue in theory the people there will have some experience of suitable exercises.

good luck and hope it is useful.
