Not sure if it's Endometriosis or not...

Hi!

I have recently been in talks with my doctor after I'd had enough of the pain I was going through and told myself to go and get it sorted once and for all. I started my periods when I was 14. I have never had heavy bleeding but I have always had extreme pain right in my lower abdomen, intense lower back and leg ache to the point where I struggle to walk and feel like my hips are being squeezed together. I have always suffered from constipation my whole life but when I am meant to be on my period, it loosens everything instead! Bloating and tummy soreness has gotten worse over the years but I had always put it down to IBS. As I've gotten older I get bad nausea with it and can get into states in the middle of the night where it'll come on and I have to rush to the bathroom to throw up. Normally with the pain combined I nearly pass out on the floor and I have to have somebody with me to make sure painkillers and a hot water bottle is close by to help me. Over the years I've constantly placed myself on contraception so that I don't have to deal with all the pain and sickness that comes with my period. The coil caused me to have a haemorraghed cyst in my left ovary so I had that taken out, the implant made me still have my intense pain but with absolutely no bleeding and the injection was perfect for me. However I am only allowed to be on the injection for so long before I have to have a break therefore I had the implant inserted once again into my arm last June and have suffered during ovulation ever since. I have no choice but to take cocodamol which makes me incredibly drowsy and have hot water bottles stuck to me. Some days I can't get out of bed. The doctor explained to me that some forms of Endometriosis only occur when you ovulate which is why I have now been referred to have an ultra sound scan and an appointment with a gynaecologist to get to the root of it all. It really affects my life when it comes on. I can deal with normal stomach pain but with all the other symptoms that come with it, it's a living nightmare. Any advice???

    Hi Tammy:

I'm so sorry for what you're going thru. Believe it or not, there are at least a few women who have no pain with endo (1was on here sometime in the last year), so that you might only have pain when you ovulate does not surprise me. A lot of your pain sounds pretty classic, tho of course I am not any member of the medical profession.

The IBS might be just that or it might be endo, or some of both. As my endo progressed I sometomes had long bouts of intractable diarrhea, interspersed w/constipation. IBS was a new diagnosis then and just as trendy as it is today, and docs just love that diagnosis. Time & tests will tell.

Speaking of tests: if the ones you are doing come back "no endo," you still won't know definitively until you have a laparoscopy.

I hope that they find something eminently treatable.

      Hello aitarg35939,

Thank you for your reply - it has been helpful. I guess I shall have to wait until I have the laparoscopy, I am sure they will want to do the procedure smile

      Thank you anyway,

      Tammy.
