Not sure if Sert is working. Help!!

Hi all

I am entering my 7th week of 50mg of sertraline. I found it really hard at the start but I improved around week 3. I have been VERY up and down since and right now I am in a down patch that has lasted a week and is getting worse. I've been getting bad anxiety again and my muscles are extremely achey. I don't know if the sertraline is right for me. I thought I was getting better but the fact that I am 6 weeks in and getting worse doesn't seem good.

Any advice?

    Hi Amanda,

I'm on week 6 on 50mg and I'm also have a huge downer. I to felt much better at week 3 and now this has taken me by surprise. My anxiety and dizziness has hit the roof again. I have been told this is normal at this stage and to either enquire about going up a dose or keep going. It can take up to 12 weeks to work! Which means we are only half way!

    Love

    Jen

Thanks Jen. It's always nice to know there are others going through the same thing. Hopefully we start feeling better soon xx

Hi Amanda, this is normal. At 6 weeks, you will still be all over the place. You'll have a good day here and there followed by low days. You'll start to feel less anxious, then very tired and achy and then depression, then numbness like derealization, then sadness, and then you'll start to feel a bit more like yourself each day. Take care and hang in there.

I restarted this med on Nov 19 and I would say I feel pretty normal nowadays. I would say 10-12 weeks. It will get better bit by bit. This med will make you feel worse before it makes you feel better. If you still don't feel improvement in a couple of weeks, I would suggest perhaps upping your dose as 50mg is a low dose. Stay strong but be gentle with yourself.

I'm so ridiculously dizzy at the moment! It won't go away and it makes me so anxious. Not knowing if it's the Sertraline side effects or my actual anxiety. Had a terrible night of anxiety last night.
