Not sure what I should do.

Hi, everyone!

I suspect that I have endo, my dr (my 3rd in 6 years) susupects that I have endo, as well. I got my first period when I 10, and it was horrible from day one, teachers sent me home from school, because I would have fever and tremble from the pain. Of course, I was always told that cramps were NORMAL. At 16 I developed my first cyst ( the size of a lemon) we took the watch and see approch and it did desolve on it's own. But, they always came back, again I was told it was Normal. When I was 18 I began taking the pill, it didn't really make much of a difference, but I thought it was all just apart of being a woman. It wasn't until I got pregnant with my first son, and had pain in my uterus the WHOLE time I was pregnant and went in to pre-term labor that, my mother finally suggested that I might have endo, like her. That's when she started telling me about her suffering and that it wasn't necessarily normal. After my first child was born, I quickly became pregnant again, so I never really had time to figure all of this out. After having my second child, everything has gotten much worse. I tried depo for a year, but that seemed to make my developed cysts weekly, and swell. Last year, I switched from depo to the patch, and also begain following a GF diet. With no relief. I just made another appointemtn with my dr. Becuase, im miserable. It seems that Im still in constant pain, Not like before I had childeren, where I only suffered during my period. Now, I feel that my overies swell during my ovulation week, and I cramp. Only, to begin cramping and feel swollen overies and throbbing pain during my period, too.

My mother finally asked me yesterday, if I was sure I didn't want anymore childeren. And if I didn't maybe I should have a hysterectomy. I honestly don't want anymore childeren. I have 2 boys, 18 mos apart NO family close enough to help, I own a flower shop, where they have to come to work with me, I don't have time for another child, or 6 weeks of recovery. But, I dont know what else to do. I feel that each cycle is worse. My temper is horrible, And I don't want to suffer the way that my mom did, multiple surgeries, early meno (with constant bleeding). My question I guess, is what would you do, what have you all done?

You may want to talk to your doctor about a laparoscopic surgery to 1) actually confirm it IS Endometriosis giving you trouble.  It may be fibroids or adenomyosis (which is like Endo and causes intense pain).  2) if you DO have Endometriosis, make sure your surgeon can excise the Endometriosis - that is CUT it out of your body. Don't let them do ablation or cauterization, which is burning it out - which can cause more scar tissue, pain, and a faster return of the disease.

Know that there is no cure.  Even if they cut it out, it can grow back.  And a hysterectomy has helped many women with some symptoms, but many still continue to have their Endo pain.  It's not a cure.  There is none.

Many have latered their diets to to exclude foods that effect hormone levels or inflammation.  Look up the Endo Diet for tips.

Best of luck to you, hun.  My biggest advice: have the surgery to confirm it is, or isn't Endo. And if it is, have it properly and thoroughly excised.  Keep us all posted!  ~Lisa

Thank you, for your reply! I appreciate the advice. Do you have any suggestions on what I should ask my dr, at my appointment Monday? I tend to clam up once I get in there, and start voicing my concerns. I'm often made to feel like I'm whining, and or seeking pain meds (which I often refuse because they make me feel crazy/ or sleepy).

It's definitely to ask if they've performed excision surgery before. If it is endo, do they intend to remove it? Or will they ony be able yo confirm the endp and have to refer you to somewhere else fpr surgery? y
