Not sure what's in the horizon

Well I've had three appointments with the neurologist first one was just more like note taking the second was doing that nerve conduction study also had an MRI of my back. turns out that my nerves in my legs particularly the right the one that had the hip replacement are pretty bad. my back is in bad shape as well. With words like, "scoliosis", "posterior disc bulge", "loss of disc height" and the list goes on..... describing my back.  Friday its back to the pain dr to see where to go from here.  Unfortunately the nerve pain and sensitivity in my thigh is a different story that may not have a happy ending....so it appears my journey doesn't end yet....I'm unhappy 😔 it's not what I was expecting.   Just needing to vent......I'm hoping one day I'll feel better.

    Hi Linda,

I have similar issues with my spine.  I've already had one surgery to correct sciatica.  After the surgeon looked at my x-rays, he said that if he didn't know any better, he'd believe he was looking at an 80 year old persons spine.  I was 44 at the timesad  The good news is that the surgery went well to correct the sciatica.  It's been about 6 years now since that surgery.  What I'm trying to say is that my back doesn't bother me at all.  You can live a normal life with these conditions.  I will mention that I no longer run though....LOL!

You mention that they detected nerve pain in your right leg.  That's a good thing, because they can now medically vouch for the pain you are feeling.  This is the first step to getting help.  What did they say about it?  Can they fix it?

Afternoon Kimberley.  What the detected is that the nerves are not working at the capacity especially in the right leg.  I get a lot of backpain all the time. Especially after sitting. I get up and I'm all hunched up till I get going. Some days I wake up and just breathing hurts my back! 😫  I'll see Friday what pain dr can do.  Lady injection I had in my back I got a terrible tingling all the way to my head!!  As for nerve pain and sensitivity in thigh I'm not sure anything can be done.  It's a hard nerve to treat per dr.

Linda so sorry the hear about the ongoing problems and pain no wonder you are unhappy. Would it not be wonderful if they could just get it right and not put people through such hell. I really really hope they can make progress and give you the help you deserve. My wife has just had some tests and we await the results to find out if she has cancer or not...what a life!

crush im sorry for you and your wife....seems like when it rains it pours 😞  Prayers for you both.   All my problems stemmed from birth.  And as I got older things got worse.   😟

    dearest  Linda,

I am so incredibly sorry to hear this ... Pain is so hard to treat - even when under care of Pain management Clinic and specialists it is hard to locate the source(s) where pain is coming from -

Not much of a consolation huh ...  you must be exhausted, darling ...

You mention that all this stems from birth .... do you mean problems with your hips and back ? I am sorry that I don't remember -

Thinking of you and wishing you a good night

    big warm hug

    renee

Good morning Renee!  No worries there are so many of us hippies it's hard to keep up!!  Yes at birth I had a dislocated hip. Was in a full body cast with a rod keeping my legs apart for the first 6 months of my life, then was in cast from waist down another 6 months.   I have always been short on right leg so I would limp but also leaned toward the right hence the back problems now.  I still am leaning as old habits are hard to break.   The nerve pain and sensitivity in my thigh is new. 4/5 months later after second surgery.   That has been my main problem.  Every thing that touches my thigh bothers me.  Am I correct that you too suffer with this??   Sleep....that was a problem since the sensitivity in my thigh was so bad.  It's gotten a little better but can get intense during day if I don't take the lyrica.   Hugs 🤗 Linda.

    Hi Linda

I feel for you, I'm having nerve problems in my foot and have had all the checks.  I have been told it's probably from my spine.  The first time I was told it was from my fifth vertebrae, the second time from the scoliosis in my spine. I suffer with curvature of the lumber spine and in total I have lost 6" in total since I was 18.  The nerve conduction test I had showed damaged nerves but I was told there is nothing that can be done only take tablets for the pain.  I am reluctant to do this as I have only one kidney and I have a friend who was a nursing sister.  She started with arthritis after me and now she is really diasabled and on a drip because her kidneys and liver are damaged through taking numerous tablets.

Is your nerve problem from the femoral nerve and can you lift it to walk.  I have a friend who had a hip replacement about 2 years ago and she is only just trying to walk with a frame because of femoral nerve damage. I'm walking but using one crutch because I can't lift my foot easily.  I have now been told it's from the tibial nerve from the accident I had 55 years ago.

I hope you can get something sorted out because I feel frustrated and I'm older than you.  If youan get any satisfaction please let me know.

    All the best Brenda

Oh man Brenda......this wasn't what I was expecting in having hip replacement surgery.  No one ever mentioned the nerves....😒  I can lift my leg..I have no problem walking.  Mine is all sensory...meaning the femoral cutaneous nerve is either being pressed by scar tissue or pulled because he gave me back all my length, I was almost 2 inches short, or it's been damaged during surgery.  It didn't come on right away.  It was about 4/5 months later after my revision.  Remember I had first hip replacement than 3 weeks later I have to have a total hip revision.  6 weeks non weight bearing. No hip exercises or hip flexion past 80 degrees.  So they call my problem "Meralgia Paresthetica". My problem is my thigh is sensitive to the touch.  Especially the side of the thigh.  And like you I don't want to be taking all kinds of meds!  I told dr cause he said I needed to take lyrica 2x a day that I drink alcohol.  I'm not a lush or alcoholic but we drink!  Mostly on weekends.  Wine, beer, ocasional mix drinks, I prefer to go out for those cause at home don't taste the same.   But not too often as that can be expensive. Try to go during happy hour!  😋🤓😜.  He laughs and says take it at bedtime.... I don't.  During the week  Ive taken lyrica 2x day but depending on what time I take it it really knocks me out!   I try drinking lots of water every day to flush out my kidneys.  Try to eat healthy.   Has a back stimulator been discussed with you?  My dr told me that would get rid of all my problems.....🤔🤔.  I told him I wanted an MRI of hip and thigh before I decided on that!   I want to make sure there's nothing missing on why or what's happening with this nerve.   To me it seems right away they want to inject you and give u meds!!  Well first tell me why this happened!  No theories!  I want to know what is going on and why this happened!!   I will post my results in about 2 weeks when I go see dr.  He did say I could try spinal stimulator for a week.  If I like it than he would actually put into my back.  The trial he would tape it on the outside of my back.   I know this is hard.  I can only imagine what you're going through.....God's blessings to you for complete healing.   Hugs 🤗Linda

I too have back issues and some of the discs are losing height.  Also a curvature of spine and a couple of herniated discs.   I believe from me being short on right leg all my life.  I limped and always kind of leaned to my right. Now it seems my back hurts more since after surgery!! 😖😫. I walk straight but without cane I tend to limp and lean to the right again.  Old habits.
