Not taking anymore meds

I am on pregabilin 350m per day, ampitripliline, 100 m per day, Also i take 30/500 painkillers 8 per day. I also have crps in my left arm after having a blood clot. I take blood thining med, which is the only med i want to keep takin. Since i was diagnoised with fibr and put on all these meds, my weight has went up by almost 4 stone, im on antidepresants, bloodpressure meds, cholestrol meds and stomach med. I am still in bloody agony, and still have all the other symptons such as balance problems, dry mouth, brain fog, urticaria, speach problems and many many more. So i have decided to stop all my med slowley as it appears not to be doing what its supposed to. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that is having the same problems as me, and if they have tried to reduce their meds and lived to tell the tale. Any input would be gratefully appreciated.

I really feel for you Claire, my problems are only to do with pain and the other effects of fibro. Personally I couldn't live without my pain meds, I suspect they would be the only ones you could safely reduce without being at serious risk. Perhaps ask you GP to refer you to the pain clinic then they could advise on various options plus the safest way to come off your meds? I'm so sorry I can't be of more help

Hi Claire, I do sympathise; I sometimes wonder about all the meds we take and still feel crap. However I would strongly suggest that you discuss with your GP how to reduce your meds in sensible steps, as the last thing you want is to have any kind of withdrawal reactions. Good luck and keep us posted whatever you decide to do. Jeanne xx

Hi Claire I was exactly the same as you in fact think most Meds made me feel worse because of all the side effects. All I take now is strong painkillers and even buy sleeping tablets over the counter.i have put on a lot of weight as well but feel better now I am off them.ithink you just have to learn to live with the pain because nothing seems to work

    Hi Claire

When I first experienced pains almost over 20yrs ago, I was put on various anti-inflammatory meds and I put on so much weight and suffered with mild depression. I took the decision that this meds were not helping me and starte to seek alternative therapies. The only meds I have taken recently were iron and vit D. I was only diagnosed in Aug 2014 with Fibro. I am at the moment trying out Ayruvedic herbal remedies only. I did find going to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy(CBT) help me in the mindfulness process of how we think about certain daily issues and how to cope with them without creating further stress for oneself.  Although the pains have not gone the thought process is much stronger for me. I personally stay away from meds but that's my choice. You should get your GP to wean you off slowly.

Gentle hugs and stay calm and positive. wink x

Claire, I am absolutely of the same mind as you. I have noticed lots of people take truckloads of meds and still in pain, tired etc.

I only take amitriptylene but am withdrawing fom that at the monent.(With Docs support) Main reason being I put on 1 stone in weight. I'm hoping to get more into mindfulness and lifestyle changes.

So I would say go for it! But please, only with your Docs approval and support.

    Take care, Anne

I thought as you what's the point on taking all the meds I do I ftjey don't work, I have a high ammume system and become so used to them they stop working, so I thought came off gabapentin slowly as advised by Dr, become worse fog got worse pain increased, spasms returned, went back and seen another Dr at hospital and they said gp should never of taken me off them, and has now increased them to 900mg three yes a day, so I think what I'm saying is youay think there not working not they

Are, try to focus on posipositive things good day even the smallest of achivments, not saying don't try this was my own experience were all effected different with fibro xx good luck which ever you choose always here for a chat

I agree with you tiff, if I forget to replace the Morphine patch I realise after a day or two, the pain has increased tremendously.  I don't take the other painkillers every four hours just when I can't stand it any longer. If I have the fog I try to sleep for a few hours and rest for the duration. I get wheals on my skin when it gets incredibly dry and itchy, coconut oil really helps with that. I give my dogs coconut oil daily to keep their immune systems boosted, improve the coat/skin and fight any infections. I have considered taking myself but  can't work out the best way to do that.

As fibro is an auto immune disease anything that boosts the immune system is a good idea, get plenty sun, with protection of course, for vitamin D, eat a healthy diet making sure you get the five a day in fruit and veg of different colours I do this with smoothies.

my fingers are really sensitive so off fo now

HI Claire, I congratulate you on your determination. However you should do that in a very controled way othewise you feel worse. If you could go to a good complementary medicine practitioner that could follow you on the process whilst offering you some therapeutic alternative would really be better. Your liver probably toxic is at this stage, because of all those meds. So it needs to be cleansed for you to feel better. Take care.

    Hi Claire

I had such bad reactions to all meds that I decided to go med free too.  I use hypnotherapy, chiropractor, diet and supplements to keep me going. Not saying it's easy because it's not but it is my choice and I do not regret it. If you have been taking meds regularly then please take advice for a safe withdrawal.    Dead sea salts are also part of my regime.  A good soak helps with the muscle problems.  I wish you well with your quest to go med free. Keep us updated on your progress
