Not to worry...

I had my cystoscopy yesterday, like everyone, I always worry....I read some of the reassuring messages on here and it helped me.
I have had traces of blood in my urine occasionally over the last 2 years so the Dr wanted to check that nothing sinister was in my bladder .
I have periods of needing the toilet more too, and am aware of my bladder, but no infection found.
I had an ultrasound first, which showed all was ok.
I was then taken to the urology ward. I took off my lower clothing and put on a gown and my dressing gown.
I was taken into the room where the procedure waa done. There were 2 nurses who were lovely, they laid me on the bed, but half sitting up. They covered my lower half leaving a small area free. The Dr came and said lets get on with it then...he didn't really explain anything so I was glad I had read up on what would happen. Some gel was put on my urethra followed by the scope, I only felt a slight discomfort at this point..when it was in I watched the screen- sterile water was put in my bladder: there was no other discomfort at all. It only took a minute! Dr said- all over and all ok.
I got off the bed, emptied my bladder which was fine- no blood.
I drank plenty of water when I got home and today am resting a bit.
I hope to avoid getting an infection...time will tell.
So, do not worry if you have to have one, a smear test is more painful ...

I have opted for the hospital procedure with full sedation. Three weeks away. I'm feeling backed into a corner with no place to hide. ?and clock is ticking. 💉📆

I would never go through that again without full anesthesia. I am dreading it too regardless...it is three weeks away. . thx for your thoughts and support!

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, all I can think is that things have improved since you had one last. I'm really afraid of general anaesthetic and hate sedation as like to know all that is going on. I was very nervous and was really surprised that it was painless.
Please don't worry too much...and don't cancel..these test save lives.
Take care

Really caught in a dilemma between wanting to be aware vs. prior and near traumatic experience. I go into shutdown mode when thinking about it. I have these crazy recurring UTI's that are creating the need for.

That's only natural to be afraid after a traumatic experience...could you speak to a Dr who might be able to explain why it was so bad last time- and reassure you things are better now?

Hi Amanda!
My procedure is scheduled for 6/23 in tbe OR. All the prep will take longer than the procedure and cost me more but that's the way I gotta go. I can change my mind and go back to the doctor office option I suppose . For now , I'm just waiting it out.
Hope you are well!!

Don't worry , worrying is far worse than the cystocopy . You will be fine . Once it's done you will have the results and know what treatment , if any is needed . Things have improved since your last one , mesical staff now realise that patients are human beings not just something to do a procedure on . I had no problems or pain with mine , and the result is my life is much , much better than before . Please try not to think about it too much , when it is all over you will wonder why you worried so much .

So pleased, I have been thinking about you. Was anything found?
You're welcome. 😊

24 hours of irritation but not a major complaint. Nothing unusual found. I was really worried because the ultrasound from weeks ago did not rule out the "C" word. I am having uti s only due to an enlarged prostate which is no surprise. Whew.
