Now dizziness feeling scared!

Hello haven't been on here for a while, had a spell of feeling better!

I am now on 5mg of carbimazole and told to stop propranalol!

Most of symptoms had gone for the last two weeks! However woke up this morning turned over in bed and had a huge dizzy spell with room spinning, really frightening! I have to move very slowly and feel light headed. Do any of you think this is caused by stopping propranalol and maybe my heart still beating too quickly? Or is it another symptom of overactive thyroid?

Really appreciate any advice!

I was only on a very low dose of Propranolol very briefly before I started treatment with Methimazole.  I have only occasionally used it (at 5 mg)since if I have palpitations. I have heard other hyperthyroid patients say if you are on it on a steady basis that it works best to decrease it slowly.  I would definitely check with my doctor though if I were you about your symptoms.

Did you wean off the propanolol? My Endo simply said to stop it, however I had what they called 'rebound' worsening palpitations and brain fog because I should have come off it gradually..good luck!

Hi! I had some weird symptoms coming off of Propranolol too! Def come off slow, and even then I felt a little funky. I know the Propranolol it's self can cause dizziness if your HR /BP is too low. How much Propranolol were you on? I have a HR monitor/ and BP monitor I would check in an instance like that just to rule that out. How high are your thyroid levels? I was dizzy a lot when I was super HIGH, but once it's controlled didn't feel much of that. Def talk to your doctor!! Good luck and take care of your self!

that's probably not from hyperthyroid... I did have that 5-7 years ago, vertigo...  I didn't know what caused it... i went to dr and just turned my head some sort of different directions and it helped for one day then it came back the next day... I have googled it previously and it has something to do with ear calciums... Everynight I would use 2 pillows to so my head would be up the whole time and when i get up I had to be really slow... It was the worst week ive experience... After 5 days of that routine the vertigo stopped and I tried ginger ale also which supposed to help with dizzyness...  Hope this helps

Hi again,  I'm glad you've been feeling better.  It could be a passing, viral - based thing -  have a search online for BPPV.  One article is from a doctor in a Daily Mail article about rolling over in bed and feeling dizzy.    I do think that ginger beer will help, if it happens again as someone else has mentioned.  Ginger is fascinating stuff.

Thank you all for your replys feeling better today! Having bloods done Monday will get blood pressure checked! I did wean myself off propranalol however doctor has said it's fine to take as and when which doesn't make sense? The other thing I thought is because i was feeling so much better started doing too much like a maniac possibly overdid things?

Keep a diary of symptoms for a few days, keep a sharp eye on it and get your bloods checked. I'd think it was from weaning off the original meds , but I'm not a specialist....

hope you feel less dizzy, I'm on carbimazole, I've been a little dizzy at night. X
