Now how do I recover?

Help please,  this is the 2nd time I've had viral laryngitis within 6 weeks! I felt lousy last Wednesday and Thursday and slowly started to recover on Friday.  What do people think of pro-biotic to strengthen the stomach after being ill? Anything else anyone can recommend to build immunity?  Please help as I said I'm really fed up being continually I'll!

Hi have heard of Kefir ? Kefir is milk or water drink you can make it yourself, it's a super probiotic with very long history, it is full of many strains of probiotic bacteria, the milk Kefir has more strains than the water Kefir, the main strains are Lactobacillus strains, there is loads of info online about it and it's benefits, I've been making it quite sometime milk and water kefir.

Have you been properly diagnosed and know you have ibs rather than any other underlying condition? I was misdiagnosed with ibs and it turned out to be more complex though ultimately treatable. X

Hi Margaret,  I have queried this several times and never got a definitive answer! My diagnosis tests were inconclusive,   hmm I wonder. I will badger my doctor.

Ok. I am not saying you hace the same issue I really don't know but I had been diagnosed twice with ibs when I actually have an underlying auto immune condition which causes gastritis. Ibs is often a lazy cover all for 'I don't know what's causing your problem' but very difficult to get a proper diagnosis. X

Exactly your last comment is what I think,  what's the difference between gastritis and ibs?

IBS is normally a reaction in the bowel to certain foods or substances (innocent ones I mean like medication and so on) gastritis is inflammation in the stomach lining and often has unknown causes (I have a connective tissue disorder and there can be a link there) or caused by h pylori infection which I have also had.

I found before I was diagnosed that gastro would have a look at the small intestine, see nothing so would attribute it to ibs. When they did a gastroscopy after many years of suffering they found inflammation in the stomach lining and h pylori.

I have gastritis also without h pylori. It is linked to my conditiin. When I am well and have good disease control I could eat anything and never have a whisper of an upset tummy.

I believe it is too costly and uses too much resources for the medical profession to actually do full diagnostic testing so they don't bother...blame you, your diet, your lifestyle whatever, suggest you are stressed and blah blah blah....and don't bother to do further testing because it is a chronic illness which they think won't go away. But with good treatment it can go away. That's the irony. Getting a proper diagnosis is the first step and the hardest bit x

I wish you welk Sam. It can be hard I was in my early 40s by the time I was diagnosed and inly got there after I had developed joint pain. I was referred to a rheumatologist whi recognised I had an underlying inflammatory condition.

From there I was referred to an oral immunologist and finally ti an immunologist and after a yeat of seeing her I was finally diagnosed. It is a hard road to travel. And my fellow sufferers had a similar experience. Sometimes symptoms develop and change so slowly and can be - in the scheme of things - relatively mild and diagnosis can be hard. Getting the right specialist can be key to getting the proper diagnosis. Keep checking in and keep us informed of your progress or, if you need support you will get it on this forum x

Hi Margaret,  good luck to you too.  I will get to the bottom of this somehow,  may be panicking too much causes worse problems than it solves,  I just want to be well enough to enjoy some of my life.
