Now It's Meningitis.....Scared

Posted , 6 users are following.

I've had a headache on and off since last week, and it was pretty severe on Monday of this week...it's gotten a bit better, but it's still there (on the right--hand side of my face, primarily)....I saw my GP yesterday and he didn't seem that concerned (but he never does)....I made the horrific mistake of consulting Google last night and now I'm convinced that I have meningitis....no fever, my neck is mobile (some tension/pain, but on the sides), bright lights don't bother me, no vomiting. I feel a bit "off" in my tummy, but that could be anxiety I suppose (I didn't sleep much last night, as I was panicking).....how worried should I be??

I know none of you are doctors, just looking for some support....thanks

I would only be worried hun if you have the symptoms, and as youve said you dont. Your doctor would be concerned as something like meningitis is serious, he wouldnt just dismiss it.xxx

I agree it sounds like anxiety. Try to postpone your worrying about this to a later time, see if that makes you feel better? xx

Hi. I totally sympathise with you. I have now had a headache/migraine everyday for 10 weeks. I have had ct and MRI scans that have all been clear. I thought I had a brain tumour or a bleed. I saw a nurologist who told me it was a migraine coming from my brain stem. I have been on steroids which haven't stopped it then propranolol which gave me chronic indigestion and a really upset stomach. Even though I am being told it's a migraine by doctor and a nurologist I am absolutely freaking out thinking they have missed something. I suffer with health anxiety and had CBT which worked really well for me. I was absolutely fine for about 9 months then BAM I got this headache out of the blue. My logical mind keeps telling me that it is Infact a migraine, but my anxious mind tells me it's something they have missed. I feel weak and tired and shaky, I get a fast heartbeat. I know once I get to grips with the fact it is my anxiety, all of my physicall symptoms will disappear. Stress and anxiety can make you feel so ill physically.  Doctors know what they are looking for and if they were worried they would have tested you further. It's your anxiety that is making you think the worst.

Thanks for your responses....the rational part of my mind (what's left of it!) understands what you're saying, but I can't get my "anxious mind" to settle down....I'm SO ANGRY at myself for googling my symptoms last night....I'm sitting at my desk almost in tears as we speak, convinced that my neck is getting stiff and that my headache is getting worse.....I may need to call my doctor for reassurance (not that it always works). I hate that I'm this terrified.

Yeah no way you can have meningitis...big fever over 103. No fever no problem.

That's what I keep telling myself, Rose...but I scared myself silly last night by reading about cases where people didn't have the "typical" symptoms (like a fever)....ugh, I HATE health anxiety.
