Numb breathing? HELP

I don't know what's going on but I need some advice. Okay, so starting back in 2014 , me and my wife went through a rough patch and we seperated temporary. Well the first night alone I developed breathing issues. It felt like I wasn't involuntarily breathing. I felt like I was more aware of my breathing and had to force myself to breathe. After a difficult night, I somehow got use to the feeling and when it flared up it didn't bother me as much. me and my wife got back together but my symptoms are still there. Sometimes I can go weeks without a problem, sometimes I deal with it for a few days. Well recently I have been getting worse symptoms. I would feel as if my throat, chest, and abdomen is one big, empty hole and like I didn't have a diaphragm to make me breathe and I had to be aware of my breathing to force myself to breathe. On top of the empty feeling, my throat and airways feel numb. I can't feel my breath, I can only see my chest rise as an indication that I'm breathing. I can't sleep because when I take my mind off of breathing for a minute, I get jolted even when I'm awake. I get like this shock that makes me take a deep breath. I've been to the doctor several times, but leave without a real diagnoses. They check my oxygen, listen to my lungs and do chest x rays, but they always say everything looks good and it is probably anxiety. What should i do?

I had this problem with breathing as well but years ago, when my anxiety first began. I have learned to cope. Seek therapy or medication or both. Maybe your anxiety is high because you feel on edge with your marriage. Good luck.

My marriage has been good since then. That's the big issue, it seems like it's sticking with me until I learn to cope. Maybe o need to evaluate all aspects of my life and find out where most of the stress is coming from.

The sensation of feeling you have to manually breath is simply you thinking about your breathing combined with anxiety. Have you ever had to go to sleep asap and not been able to do so? Same thing. When I had a massive stress response from a major series of panic attacks a couple years ago I had trouble walking afterwards. I felt the same thing except in my legs, "left leg forward, now right leg forward" ahaha. Also I've experienced that numb feeling you talk about, totally normal. The only thing a can't quite relate to is the feeling you stomach is a big hole thing but hey everyone experiences this torturous, aweful mental illness differently so I'm sure it's linked to stress caused by your anxiety. If the docs are also saying your fine, your 99% probably fine. smile

It is a torturing disease, one that is so complex and strange. Why does the body invent a system that completely hinders itself? Maybe a lot of anxiety issues come from our modern way of life. Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing these bizarre symptoms. My main concern is that I've never been sent to a specialist. It's always my primary care doctor who sends me over to the hospital and an ER doctor comes in to run the tests. Never am I admitted or recommended to seeing a therapist of any kind. They tell me to go home and relax and usually offer to prescribe me some nerve pills.
