    Hi Annie,

Did you have the posterior or anterior approach? I had the anterior approach back in mid-October and the side of my hip/thigh is still pretty numb. However, I do feel as though the sensation is coming back and the numbness is slowly starting to go away (hopefully). Best of luck to you!

hi Annie. I'm 12 weeks post OP and had the posterior approach. I've been numb to the R of my scar from the OP. it does feel slightly less numb if you get the gist. I've read it can take some time and it depends really if the nerves were cut or just stretched . if they were cut my understanding is they generally dont repair themselves or if they do take a long time. I'm sure nerves are easily identifiable during surgery as they tend to avoid them if possible.

best wishes anyway and pleased upure progressing well

It seems that the posterior approach is much kinder to nerves than the anterior approach. As you say once cut they don't repair themselves.

hi. yes I think this is why a lot of the nhs surgeons prefer the posterior approach tbh as less long term nerve damage .

My surgeon gave up doing anterior for posterior as he felt that gave a lot better results. I was able to move incredibly well after my op.

I had the anterior approach on both hips. The most recent one was over a year ago. I still have some numbness to the outside of the incision area on each leg and I really do not expect that those areas will ever entirely have sensation. Doesn't bother me at all.

I liked the anterior approach as well... And the small area on the outside of my thigh that is numb doesn't bother me at all either. There are much worse places on your body to have numbness!!!
