Hi Kerry, when did this start? We need abit more info on this. If it is a recent thing it's unlikely to do with THR. You could have developed sciatica or some sort of neuropathy. Either way you should see your GP.

It's been on and off since surgery but getting more frequent. It seems to occur when I have beeen more active.

Anterior. I'm only 34 so it's a blow that this is happening.

I am only 3+ months post op but I get this too. I am also Diabetic and had restless leg and some nerve issues before my thr so wasn't sure which it was related too. I want badly to lose the cane but this and a slight difference in leg length now keep me using it for balance. I am afraid of a tumble. It is worse when first getting up, of course that is when I shower and am at most risk. I am very careful however and have a grab bar installed in my shower. I was hoping this will improve and it still could. My doc reminded me it takes a year or longer to completely heal inside and diabetics heal slower. Pain is mostly gone, just wish I could walk better. I am age 70 but was fairly active before two surgeries, left knee replacement in 2016 and a year later left hip replacement. I guess it's reasonable to expect it might take me awhile to get my balance and stability back. Doctor took me out of physical therapy because I still have a very bad right knee and we are trying to keep it stable until I am recovered.

I didn't have this prior to surgery. I hope that you make a good recovery, slow as it may seem at times it's best not to push things and listen to your body. Everyone is different.

I agree everyone is different. I am 40 and a very active landscape company owner. Today is four weeks for me. Day 9 I had a major internal bleeding issue that made my knee so tight it wollnt move. Pain was unreal! I am just now getting back to PT and they are working on my knee and hematoma in thi . The set backs seam to happen to everyone and it's years that we are still prone to them from reading on here.

It's both disappointing and frustrating when these things happen. Whilst the pain I had pre surgery has disappeared it's a new set of issues to deal with and not knowing how is causing me anxiety. Yes I can rest and it subsides, but surely I don't have to do that forever. I'm young with a young family and thought that me not being able to play with my children would get easier and I'd not suffer as much afterwards. Painkillers don't help so I'm stuck how to ease this restlessness/numbness I'm feeling.

You've had major surgery that takes a year or more to totally heal. If you try to rush it, you often end up with major setbacks or other problems. I know we all hear about people making quick miraculous recoveries, the truth is most of us need time to heal. Walking or doing major exercise before those muscles have strengthened can cause real harm and pain. I learned the hard way. I am finally back to where I was after a 3 week setback of rest, icing and anti-inflammatories. Don;t let yourself get too frustrated, just accept that this is a journey and you will get there, go slowly the first 5 to 6 months and slowly you will see yourself gain momentum. We hippies need to help one another here. Give yourself permission to go slow and easy but forward and rest for days or weeks when you over do and have pain. Your body is trying to tell you it needs the rest. Anti-inflammatories, over-the-counter can help as can icing, even thigh or knee pain as many muscles can be affected. Be kind to yourselves and you will get there, I plan to.
Best to you,
Peg

Hi Peggy,
Thanks for such an encouraging reply. I have been so depressed and discouraged after almost 8 months that it was getting dangerous. The pain, my knee not bending, not being able to sit in a car or do anything really has been devastating. I was told three months and that I had nothing to worry about. So when I found out my meniscus had been torn and then I needed a transfusion because half my blood was lost, oh shoot. It goes on and on. So, I really appreciate the encouraging words. Thank you from my heart. Thank God it's still beating. Dana

I had a fall with torn meniscus and cartilage of left knee last year and had thr then. A year later thr same leg. I know what you're going through....could not walk for months before knee surgery. Everything is now improved, but it's a long journey. It's easy to become depressed, but if we realize what our body has been through, we have to give ourselves permission to take it slow and easy. There is no benefit to doing any walking or exercise if it hurts. Be kind to yourself. I;m still in my hip journey but I have learned to relax. It is no benefit to setting our recovery back, our body sets the pace and it different for everyone but if we just give it time, relax and rest when we need to, we will eventually heal. I'm sorry you have had a particularly bad time, that means all the more to rest more and be kind to yourself. I hope your recovery goes well.

Hi Kerry,
Doesn't sound so good to me - maybe get a referral to a neurologist - it is possible that some nerves were stretched and damages during surgery and still to heal -- this can take some time ...
Does this numbness affect your standing on your leg or walking?
Please let us know how you are getting on otherwise ..
big warm hug

i had my hip replaced January 2016 and I get the numbness in my foot and tightness in the calf. After a nerve conduction test on my foot I have even told I have damaged nerves but there is nothing they can do. What kind of pains do you get, is it a tingling and pricking feeling all the way through your foot, from heal to toes?
Keep in in touch with any progress
Brenda

Hi Brenda, the pain starts in my thigh and goes down my calf which then turns to numbness and then my toes go completely numb. Also if I twist or stretch the wrong way I get excruciating pain down the back of my leg it's like cramp but leaves me feeling sick and feeling lightheaded. This does pass and it's not a specific thing I'm doing. It happened on Friday and I only stepped over a ditch! I'm trying to get an appointment with a consultant but keep on having my appointments re-scheduled!

Morning Kerry. Sounds like a trapped nerve. I started with sensitivity, pinky toe tingling, numbness around top side of thigh. Mine started about 5 months after my revision. It got worse. Have been seeing pain dr. Have had injections in cutaneous nerve, back, now in IT band. Am on lyrica. Currently 150 mg per day. Dr wants me to go up to 300 mg but I'm not keen on that idea. I just barely started taking the 150. I was only doing 75. I'm contemplating getting a spinal stimulator to help with my issues. Back is pretty shot too. Dr says it will help with nerve issue. If that's true I'll be a very happy camper!!! This nerve issue is a terrible thing to go through as anything that touches my thigh bothers me. Good thing it's summer cause all I wear are shorts!! Have you discussed this with you dr? Have you had tests done? Wishing you all the best and let us know how you're doing. Hugs 🤗 Linda
