Numbness after hemorrhoid surgery

Posted , 4 users are following.

Good evening all,

Let me introduce myself. I'm 38, been living with internal hems for about 15 years, never really bothered me until I got an external one in November that never went away. Had surgery this Monday March 12th and I honestly wished I would have stayed with my friend!!!

My question for you guys who are further along in the process. Did anyone have numbness in the bottom of their butt cheek and around the anus after surgery?

I finally had the heart to see myself I mirror and I didn't know it would be so bruised. I feel it is still swollen and when I try and have a bowel movement it feel as if I have to strain and push before anything comes out. I don't feel I have to go as before but now I just feel pressure.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Cassandra, I am 8 days post op had my surgery last Wednesday I had grade 4 external and internal hems and they caused me so much pain and bleeding that I ended up having 5 blood transfusions for the blood loss so my surgery was nessasary. For the first 2 days I did feel numb and also if I touched in between my bum and vaginal area it was all hard and swollen but the numbness did go away. Have you had a proper bowel movement yet did you get given any stool softeners I got given two and all my bowel movements weren’t painful but the pain afterwards made me scream in agony and cry it was like this for the first 5 days the pain got so bad I rang an ambulance on mother’s day Sunday just gone. And I got prescribed morphine and was on 20 tablets a day taking them every 2 hours even though they didn’t really block the pain. I’ve now stopped all pain meds and bowel movements are easier apart from the odd one I feel the throbbing and anal spasms so I lay in the bath for an hour or so. I honestly feel fine now but the first 5/6 days were awful making me wish I would die and never had it done...I never looked at mine I didn’t want too thought it would scar me for life lol but my partner had a look and it was all black and blue and I now have some sort of flap/skin hanging out which I’m hoping will go away as I don’t want to have to have any sort of surgery to remove because no way would I go through this again...Just wanted to give you a little story from me!! Bit of advice is take pain killers even if you think you don’t need them just to build up I was taking inbuprofen and paracetamol every 4 hours and morphine every 4 hours but they constipated me and one day it was a real struggle felt I was pushing for no reason so I’d advice just paracetamol if you aren’t in too much pain. Also lots of water I’ve been drinking 4 litre jugs a day and 4 glasses of my stool softeners a day and added fibre to my diet and cut out cheese and mayo and other sauces as I’ve noticed they give me bloating and stomach cramps. Try to avoid constipation as that’s what makes you feel you need to go but are pushing and you don’t want to push and cause anymore harm...Hope my story/advice can help you a little. Good luck with your recovery xx

Thank you for your advice. I'm drinking a lot of water but I think not nearly enough. I had my first bowel movement the day after surgery and I thought I was going to pass out. Everything got black, I was pale and shaking. I've had 2 natural births and that doesn't compare to the pain of this surgery. I'm not constipated but I feel like I have to push more. My stools are very soft, just the first push is the hardest. Sorry for too much info there.

Eh don’t be sorry!! I’m glad I found this forum because I think when your going through what we all are it’s easier to be open and that’s good as I think I’m doing my partners head in constantly talking about my bowel movements like I’ve had one this morning and it hasn’t even hurt I’ve managed to get straight off the toilet and do the school run lol. Yes I would rather give birth a thousand times over them first few days felt like involuntary contractions in my bum it was awful. They don’t explain this to you my surgeon just said it’s gonna hurt for 2 weeks and on my aftercare leaflet it says I will experience mild main for 24/48 hours after anaesthetic wears off, hmmmm that was a lie I rang the hospital screaming on day 2 and day 5 I couldn’t walk sit down or move in bed which is why they gave me the morphine but I’ve stopped all pain relief my problem is the constipation feeling now but that’s my own fault not sticking to the full instructions of stool softeners because they look horrible and I feel it’s a chore to drink them but they do make it easier x

And just want to add I feel the pressure after a bowel movement I think it’s what makes it feel more uncomfortable and irritating even when your empty. I have been using a hot water bottle in between my bum which takes a little bit of the pressure away xx

Only had numbness while local anaesthetic was still doing it's business. After that it was pure pain.

Yes!! It has been pure pain since Monday. I laugh when I think of what my doctor told me before. "Surgery will be 15 minutes, then 1-2 days to recover". What freaking planet is he on?? And he has been a colorectal surgeon for over 20 years. I still don't know how they haven't come up with anything easier for this.

Thank you for responding. I'm hoping this gets better by next week. Be well.

I had four external and two internal removed in October.

I was give lactulose and fybogel for BM.

For the pain I was given paracetamol and dihydrocodeine.

After each BM I sat in a hit bath which helped.

For breakfast I ate bran flakes and added either raspberries or blackberries. I eat apples and pears.

Drink plenty of water which helps to soften your stools. I went o short walks which did help and built this impeach day

Do not lift anything heavy for the first few weeks.

Yes I was bruised as well.

My operation was difficult as the surgeon told me when I went back to the hospital in December for a check up.

I am so glad I had the operation.

Do not strain when you have a BM just let it do it's self.
