Numbness in right big toe

I've been having a strange numbness feeling in the bottom of my right big toe for about almost two months now, and it has not gotten any better since. Sometimes it's not as noticeable, but other times it's very prominent. It's a very uncomfortable feeling, like almost painful but not, and it bothers me on a daily basis. I often try to avoid walking or standing on that toe, which in turn sometimes causes my whole foot to hurt. I read online that what I'm experiencing might be caused by a nerve in my lower back, and my lower back does actually bother me somewhat often (usually only briefly and probably a couple times a week or so).

Is it likely that this toe numbness might actually be caused by that? And more importantly, who should I see about this? I don't have health insurance, and I don't want to spend $175 to go see a physician only to be referred somewhere else. By the way, I'm a male, 31 years old, 6'2", about 140 lbs. (if that helps any).

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks is advance.

    HI Zeeky

i dont know where you live but i suggest you see a specialist an ORTHOPAEDIC surgeon. They are the best in these matters but you may need a referral from a GP. too.

I don't know if you're still having this problem or have gone to see any one about it yet, but I have had something similar and I saw my physiotherapist and it was a compressed nerve in my lower back.

They did some massage and traction and gave me some exercises to help strengthen my core and it is a lot better - not completely un-numb but there is more feeling in then there had been prior... I have other issues with my foot as I am also recovering from a fracture in the same leg, but the numbness in the toe came on suddenly and much after the fracture so it was clearly unrelated.
