Numerous ways to make an Appointment with Your Own doctor

Posted , 3 users are following.

It is surprising how many times this question is asked, and not answered correctly, especially here in the UK. So, I have listed the appointment types and how to request them either online or via phone.

If your doctors surgery uses the electronic system for appointments and prescriptions then this is easier to use, but has less appointment times.- however, this does give you the advantage of seeing when your own doctor is free again and how long of an appointment you need to fit in their schedules.

Online Booking Appointment Type:

Standard Appointment = a 10 minute consultation

Double Appointment = a 20 minute consultation (Note: This may require you to make 2 consecutive running appointments). If this is the case make sure you have no gaps between appointments when booking.

Most surgeries depending on your doctors instructions will allow up to 30 minute consultations

Phoning for an Appointment:

Standard Appointment = a 10 minute consultation

Extended Appointment = a 15 - 20 minute consultations

Double Appointment = a 20 minute consultation

Remember do not overbook, most matters can be dealt within 5-10 minutes – you could be wasting your Doctors time, as well as other people behind you.

Repeat Prescriptions:

If you need a repeat prescription, try and not make an appointment, unless it is absolutely necessary. Most surgeries will take repeat prescriptions on line, once one has been issued, do not order more than is necessary.

Arranging an appointment with your own doctor:

Most people these days prefer to see their own doctor, compared to a stand-in or locum – besides your own will or should know your whole medical history, it is more practical to see your own doctor if you need to change a drug, or need additional drugs for a new problem.

WARNING:

Remember, everyone is different, therefore NEVER give your medication dedicated to you to someone else, whom may have a serious reaction. Many people do this without realizing the effects that could happen.

Personal Care Plan Trial in the UK

If you are on this new trial in the UK, please make sure you keep either your doctor or hospital consultant updated of any changes.

The Plan is there for you, and every so often a nurse from your Doctors surgery will contact you, asking you if anything has changed and will update you if there are changes or letters recieved recently regarding your health.

If there is anything that you are unsure of they will ask you to arrange a call back with your doctor. This may not be anything to worry about, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

If there are any recent changes in health, then notify them, they will contact you within 24 hours to check on you.

Does the personal care plan trial include me having a Complex Care Team who don't seem to know what they're doing? I've been without care for the best part of a year while they're trying to work out what to do with me, and they stopped my Direct payments, persuading me it was in my best interests to agree, which I foolishly did!

They were saying things that made me believe that they had my care plans in hand.

Georgia, there are numerous traps, and people in places like Jobcenters, the DWP, etc are being paid to setup people so it sounds like you will be better off. The whole lot is lies of course and people are falling for them, which in the end leads them back to the Jobcentre looking for a job even though its perfectly noticeable they are unfit for any type work.

I would say I was one of the lucky ones, but on the hand the number of consultants and doctors I see is way beyond that of a normal person.

The Personal Care Plan includes all of people involved in your case/records. In mine at the moment is my Personal Care Plan Advisor (she liasons between my doctor) and all consultants including Neurologists, Oncologists, Urologists, Pain Management Consultants, and future consultants I did not even know about. They are sending me to a Memory Center, to check my memory - now that may sound stupid, when I can recall things that have happened years ago, but it's being done for another reason.

Someone can tell me something and I can literally forget it within seconds, whereas other material I can remember without any problems, so thats something I got to see my doctor about. I didn't even know anything about it until the Personal Care Plan Nurse told me on the phone! A misinformed there I think!

I am now being checked for the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, I know there is occassions when I will disagree with people and think I'm correct until proved different, but my doctor this said could be down to the numerous medications I'm taking. Therefore, Tests are going to be carried out at a Memeory Centre, the results carbon copied to Pain management  and my Neurologist and doctor. Since, a new drug they drug they tried me on for nearly 2 weeks had the opposite effect to what they expected! See, I am a complex case as everyone states! LMAO lol

      Regards,

      Les.

My GP only holds surgeries two days a week. This can mean a two week wait or even three if a double appointment is necessary as in my case. The GP has marked my records with that was a requirement. If anything it is likely to devolve on her backup GP or any GP that happens to have an available slot. I have not had a situation where I thought they continuity was so important that I had to insist.

My GP has asked me to call my telephone whenever there is any change so that she may decide how best to deal with the issue . There is still the same problem if she is not in the surgery then they call must be taken by the substitute.

I can guess what you might be thinking. I value the service of my GP and would rather have these difficulties than make a change to a GP working five days in the week.

LOL.. Actually, many GP's are now on a 6 day rota-scheme.

2 days a week, they would not cope around here. You have to think theres around 1,500 Nato's families near me, armed soldiers, etc and another 50,000 houses being built! LOL loleek
