I had both hands done at the same time three years ago and I would never to it if I were you.  My hands have been tingling and numb 24/7 for three yrs.  I found another doctor who is going to do a new surgery where they cut longer on the hand and arm, lift the nerve and then put a synthetic wrap aorund the nerve.   I will have one hand at a time done this time and hope this will slove the hell I am living.

I have the same problem and it was 4 years ago February 4 of this year that I was operated on.  I would very much like to know if this new surgeon is able to solve your problem with this new surgery and sythentic wrap.  My original surgeon had no idea what could be wrong or how to fix the problem or perhaps didn't think I had a problem.  His answer was to use pain medication.  A second surgeon that specializes in hand surgery was non-comitial  as to the results of the original surgery being the cause of the problem but offered to perform a second surgery, He said he would lift the median nerve, wrap it with a piece of fat from my butt, and  tuck it back in but deeper in my wrist, He said the surgery would have a 50/50 chance to solve the problem which he felt might be due to the insulation protecting the median nerve being damaged.  With inly a 50/50 chance of solving the problem, i chose not to have surgery again.  Good luck with your surgery and I would be very interested to find out if this can solve the problem. A second surgery would be acceptable to me if the chances of sucess were better than 50/50.

Thanks for the well wishes.  But 50/50 sounds ok to me, as I have had other kinds of surgery and they were also 50/50 and I ok.  I just hope this one comes out correct.

There are lots of variations on these 'rescue' procedures for carpal tunnel surgery that has not gone well. None of them have been studied enough to know if they are really worthwhile or not - all we have is anecdotes from individual surgeons and patients or short case series. Usually what is missing from them is a precise diagnosis of what the problem is. There are many different reasons for having persistent symptoms after carpal tunnel surgery and the same treatment is almost certainly not suitable for all of them. Dr J Bland

I am meeting with the doctor tommorrow to set up the day for my surgery on my left hand.  I will be filling out paper work and should learn alittle bit more of how this go and proper name of the procedure.  I have the numbness traveling up to my elbow at different times.  I hope this surgery will work for me.
