    Hi

You can take 2 tablets four times a day. No more than 8 tablets in 24hours though.

Thanks Donna!  I have, until now, limited my intake to 2 per day, however the pain is getting worse and worse so if I double that I should be in the 'relatively' safe range.

I have to be very careful because I am still on steroids for PMR.

    Hi

Don't suffer. Take as you require but no more than 8 tablets per day spaced out 4-6hourly. How much codeine is there in the tablets? Just be aware codeine can cause constipation.

    Dear Constance,

sorry that your pain is getting worse and worse...

But beware, Co-Codamol can be addictive.

Have you talked with your doctor about managing pain?

You need to know if this pain is acute pain, or chronic pain.

They may suggest other medications which may be helpful for you in particular, and can check contra-indications against whatever else you are taking.

For example it was discovered some years ago that small doses of a drug originally developed as an anti-depressant, can help calm pain and disturbed sleep. You could ask if using warm or cool packs would help reduce this pain. Also ask if anti-inflammatory tablets would be appropriate, or gel applied directly, as opposed to digesting it (use one or the other, not both).  Your doctor may know of other medications  and pain research findings.

Your doctor may also agree that some self-help may be useful. The more ways to manage pain, help sooth your body, the less helpless you may feel, and your body can produce its own natural pain killers… For example by learning relaxation techniques.

Keeping mobile may difficult, but avoiding pain by under-activity may not be helpful.  Your doctor or a physiotherapist may provide guidance about what activities are OK for you in particular. You may be taught how to pace activity so that you do not increase pain.

There are plenty of information resources, here are a few.

See half way down the article “Living with Osteoporosis

about pain relief, self help and pain management clinics:

    https://www.nos.org.uk/living-with-osteoporosis#pain

    also persistent pain:

    https://www.nos.org.uk/file/living-with-osteoporosis-factsheets/Managing-persistent-pain-after-fractures.pdf

    also see Pain Concern UK:

    http://painconcern.org.uk/self-management-videos/breakingbarriers/self-management-vid/

I think it would be best to seek the professional advice of your doctor, about  what is appropriate for you. What is helpful for one person may be unsuitable for another.

Thanks for your comments, Sue.  As I have PMR, Polyarthritis, Gout and Mygratory arthritis I do have a considerable amount of pain - not much helps!😡

Every couple of years I go into a specialist rheumatism clinic for two weeks and they try to sort me out.

I find excercising difficult, but I do try, swimming, walking for 20 mins, when  can.  I have physiotherapy three times a year.  So you see I am doing quite a lot but, just occasionally I need a little bit more, that was the reason I asked about co-codamol.  Until now I have limited my intake to 2 per day, but I intend to double that for a time.  The co-codamol is prescribed by the doctor.  (I wish canabis was legal!😃 I have heard it relieves pain.

Ah well!  Keeping positive is the only way forward.  Difficult at times!

Once again thanks for your advice.

      Regards fr Constance.

Constance, I have heard cbd oil (from that plant we are not allowed to name) is helpful and as it has no psychotropic effects it may be legal in your jurisdiction - if you can get it.  I understand that in Canada nearly all of this oil is thrown away as a by-product of seed and seed oil production.  It is an extract from the leaves, and is reputed to be very effective in treating inflammation, which would help at least one of the sources of your pain.

Anhaga, I have no idea what cbd oil is and I don't think I'd have the guts to try it even if I did!😏

I can't write it out because the Patient program will send me to be moderated, but you should be able to google it without any trouble.  I think if you would be happy to take h**p oil eat or eat the seeds, similar to flax, cbd oil would be no more dangerous.  Kind of like any other healthy oil but with major anti-inflammatory action.  I'd like to try it myself if I could get it, but the whole discussion about this plant that cannot be named seems to centre on the psychoactive effects, which have no interest for me whatsoever!  It continues to amaze me that we are casually prescribed dangerous life altering pharmaceuticals, yet are not even given a chance to at least try something much safer that might or might not help us but has no deleterious side effects.  What are the authorities so afraid of?

The authorities know that many many users of light drugs turn to heavier drugs later.  That's what they are afraid of!

Anhaga, I have just ordered cbd oil - on your recommendation.  I'll let you know if it works for me.

You also asked me to let you know how I get on with the vibration plate.  I find it very helpful for the days I can't get out.  At least I feel I am DOING something.

Good for you.  I will be interested to hear about the cbd oil.  I think I could order it online too, but have not done so.  Feeling pretty good these days with what I am doing, so perhaps I'll keep cbd, along with turmeric, in my back pocket in case I need a boost. Interesting about the vibration plate. Does it take up much space? As the windchill here today is around -19C I'm going to use our "dreadmill".

Re the unnameable plant as a gateway drug. Then we keep the psychoactive medical version of the plant out of the hands of youth, just as we do alcohol, tobacco, and dangerous pharmaceuticals.  We don't deny sick people an opportunity to try something that could be helpful without dangerous side effects.

It's 62x40x17 cms.  Easy to use after the first few times - excellent for balance.  I had to hang on to something like mad at first, but now just get on and off with no problem.

I hated my treadmill, it was sooo boring.  Sold it!

Anhaga, HELP!   I have now received the cdp oil, but there are no instructions with it.  How much do I use, how often, do I take it, rub it on, or what?  Did you read up about it, if so where?

Hang on.  I'll find the site, I'm pretty sure I bookmarked it, and when I find it I will private messaage the link.  cry
