Observation - seem to be more females on PATIENT

Hi,

I don't want to be disrespectful, but there seems to be more females on PATIENT than males.

Do females have more joint replacements or is it the blokey mentality not to show pain and to show we're tough?

I know a lot of lovely females would say than men suffer from man colds, I don't.

My wife had a TKR 5 weeks ago and I swear, it sounds most of the time someone is trying to kill her, she gets around ouch, ouch and ouch. ;^)

You are going to get some nice responses I'm sure on that one . If you check the national joint registry report for 2019 yes 58.9% of operations were carried out on women . This is over the whole period of reporting and percentages fluctuate year on year . It is worth looking at for the facts. Remember it is major surgery and not everyone sails through it but in the majority favourable outcomes .

Hi are you asking if more women use the site or do women feel more pain from the hip replacement??

Remember that women probably are more active compared to the males after this surgery as men usually don't push them selves to get back to doing housework and cooking etc and men get fed up quicker of being the carer,, 5 weeks is nothing in time scales,, obviously you are not in the UK because our elective surgeries were cancelled before that like mine.

Let her rest a bit more see if that lessens the ouch factor

could be digging yourself into a very large hole with this one, personally I think we are all equals to having similar joints etc, but I think woman have a more approachable attitude to pain, they just get on with it, we as men moan about anything, I should know I've been married for 38 years, good luck on this one

Hi, could be. I've been married for 37 years and I think my wife has conditioned me NOT TO COMPLAIN, if I made mention of anything she'd say I was suffering from a MAN COLD.

My attitude that had been ingrained nearly killed me 12 months ago as I'd been suffering from back and shoulder pain and was putting it down to muscle strain as I'd been doing weight training to get ready for the next season of senior golf tournaments.

I found out after my wife FORCED me to the hospital emergency department that I was suffering from angina pain and heart attack and had 3 stents inserted in my heart the next day, fortunately I had very little heart muscle damage.

pla that's just not correct . The national joint registry factual studies confirm percentages for men and women and all the nuances etc for hips knees ankles etc it is very informative .

maybe its because more women than men found this helpful site. but there are a number of wise and experienced men on this site who I'm sure will and can speak to your personal questions.

Pain, moving around, getting in and out of beds and chairs, carrying on with daily activities are pretty universal, and there are lots of suggestions that may well be universal for either sex so you can use what works. In my case, some of the things suggested were fabulous, and brilliant, and some didn't help me at all. So we can ask anything here and take whatever hints and suggestions that might work for us. and don't forget to share any great ideas you discovered.

    good luck in your recovery.

    Hi Kenmar,

I have never noticed whether there are more women 👫 than men on here, there seems a lot of both sexes. The men are just as scared of the op as women, never noticed men not showing pain, maybe I missed that one 🤣🤣🤣.
