Odd feeling of coldness in my mouth

For about 8 months now, I've had an odd constant cold feeling in my mouth. It's like the feeling of brushing your teeth with out the minty taste. It's the opposite of heartburn but just as annoying. Sometimes my mouth waters as well. This cold feeling makes my teeth sensitive. My GP has never heard of it and don't know how to test or treat it. I will be seeing an endocrinologist at the end of the month and hoping she will recognize this and know how to treat it. I had my thyroid out three years ago and I am menopausal. Not sure if its something hormonal. People a lot younger are having similar symptoms so I'm guessing it may be linked more to digestion than hormones. I guess my question is, Has anyone been diagnosed and treated effectively for this?

I've also had a constant cold feeling in my mouth for around eight months (the roof of my mouth, tongue, and the back of my throat. Before this started I'd first had a bitter taste for a few months, a few weeks where I was normal, and then the cold feeling. As you say it's as if you've brushed your teeth but without the minty taste. Last October I mentioned it to my dentist who referred me to a consultant as she thought it might have something to do with my crown. I waited months to be seen and when I had my appointment the consultant couldn't understand why I'd been sent! However, he said while you're here we'll test for oral thrush and do a blood test. I had then had to wait again for another appointment. Everything came back clear. Around six weeks ago my salivary glands started producing too much. At first it was both sides of my mouth. Now it's just one side but it's constant. My doctor is no help, although he did say the extra production could be a side effect of a new tablet I started in August (Citalopram). I will be on that tablet till at least the end of February. I went back to the dentist yesterday. The one I had before has left, so was chatting to the new one about both symptoms. She said when she did her training she was told it was classed as burning mouth syndrome, and there was no medication which would alleviate it. However, she also said it's linked to "women of a certain age". I said you mean women going through the menopause? She said middle aged women. I have vertigo which has not responded to medication this time round. My consultant said it was highly likely that the menopause had set it off again three years ago, and was also why the meds hadn't worked this time. He said once I've gone through it, my vertigo will go back to the mild level. At that time I had a contraceptive implant. This was taken out just over a year ago and I've not had a period in that time, so I can now say I'm going through it now. Any so called periods I had whilst I had the implant don't count. I also have an hiatus hernia, which I've had for fourteen years. My doctor is putting the cold feeling down to "silent reflux". Please let me know how your appointment with the endocrinologist goes.
