Odd Mono Symptoms

Hi everyone! this is my first post ever on this site, i have been worrying like crazy over the symptoms I’ve been feeling. This may be lengthy, but any info or reassurance will be helpful to a hypochondriac like me..

The end of July 2017 I started experiencing shooting bone pains all over and abdominal pain. The shooting pains all over continued on and off until October when I finally decided to get bloodwork done. Two days before getting blood work, I came down with extreme weakness, a horrible sore throat, 101.5 fever, and a tight sensation in my neck (gland swelling) that lasted only 3 days. I went for bloodwork and got my results back and I tested positive for mono. and my rheumatoid arthritis level was slightly elevated. My doctor said that this could be due to the mono (it can cause false positives for other illnesses).

There are a couple things I’m concerned about. 1) As crazy as this sounds, i had NO fatigue. I did not even KNOW i had mono. 2) The bone pain is still happening, even though all the other symptoms I had cleared up. It’s in my toes, fingers, hands, wrists, hip bones, and the bottoms of my feet. Could joint and bone pain actually be from Mono? could it be viral arthritis?

3) I am 18 years old, female, 113 pounds, eat healthy, don’t drink/smoke, and never had any history of any illnesses. I am very physically healthy, however I suffer very bad anxiety and OCD.

Could the elevated Rheumatoid arthritis level actually be accurate? I am only 18. I am worried sick and hoping my body is just showing weird symptoms of mono and that this bone and joint pain will eventually pass. I feel like my bones are giving up. I miss my old self sad Thank you for listening.

I have had all over body pain since I had mono. It comes and goes and I also have anxiety about it all. I'm going for further tests and seeing a rheumatologist soon. My only regret is not pushing my doctor to send me for referrals sooner. Honestly all I want at this point is reassurance that it is mono and nothing else but I know from talking to others here that the virus can stick around for a long time. I've been trying some natural remedies to get back on my feet like acupuncture and eating healthy, supplements etc. I think you should get some omega and vitamin D supplements for the joints/bones. We should all be taking them anyway regardless of mono and also a good pro-biotic.

Hope you get answers sooner than me. My doctor has been very slow to send me for tests and this is now dragging out way too long and anxiety levels have really escalated so I think number one priority is getting those referrals asap mainly for piece of mind if you have anxiety.

It is likely this is all from the virus coz it can wreak havoc on the body but so can anxiety and stress so do what you need to do to get answers, eliminate stress and continue to heal ?

Thank you so much for your quick reply! I haven’t found anything online about people with mono having deep bone pain. Then I read Rheumatoid arthritis can cause a false mono test 😩. Now i’m wondering if i even HAVE mono. So much anxiety, just want answers. hope you feel better soon too! It’s hard to believe all the symptoms being felt are from one virus. let me know how things turn out for you. do you have bone pain or joint pain as well?

I'm not sure. I think mine is mostly all over muscle pain but my right shoulder, right knee, ankle and hips sometimes feel stiff and achy too. It's not severe pain though just constant. My abs and ribs hurt too a lot and doctor thinks I could have hurt my back but I think I'm just weak, tense, anxious and fighting this stupid virus 🙈😴

Try not to Google. It really won't help. I've done it and it just raises more questions than answers. It becomes exhausting and mono alone is exhausting enough!

Just tell your doc you want to see the specialist. Don't let them fob you off. If your worried about RA then see an expert and hopefully you can tick that worry off your list and just deal with getting over mono (which is no picnic either but it does get better) ?

Hi Hun I'm 26 and also have health anxiety. I came down 29th July 2017 so pretty much the same time. I still suffer the exact same symptoms as you, I don't always come on here to check posts, message me on fb if you like. Rosanna baggalley. Think I'm the only one, picture of me on my wedding day and my friend in the pic. It's a truly horrible illness! I'm wondering when it will ever go! I constantly think it's something more than mono, but people on this site and people on fb are all suffering the same as us some with different symptoms some the same, there's not much research done in to glandular fever. But there's 1000's of us all suffering symptoms which aren't on the list for symptoms of glandular fever but are defo symptoms of it. I hope u feel better soon, feel free to message on here or fb which ever u prefer xxx

Do you have elevated CRP ?

No, my blood showed it was elevated reguarding inflammation related to Rheumatoid arthritis. however my doctor said that because of the mono, the inflammatory markers may be elevated. If they do not return to normal after my mono clears up, my doctor suggested seeing a rheumatologist. I made the appointment anyway just to be safe for next week. but good news! the bone pain stopped... after two long months. hopefully it was just related to this vicious virus!!!

I've just been diagnosed with mono after having weird symptoms of achy fingers when i wake up each morning that go away immediately when i rinse my hands with cold water! i also feared arthritis but this morning (for first time in 3 weeks) the pain wasn't there and the doctor called to confirm it's mono. also been tired but thats not so unusual for me as i get up at 5:30 every day. nowhere online can you find that a symptom of mono is achy fingers! well i hope thats all it is. best wishes to all!
