Odd symptoms (breathing issues plus others)

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had some times where it feels like I'm forgetting to breathe. It's like I have to think about how to breathe. It just happens, and it's different from my panic/anger attacks when I have a hard time breathing, which feels like my throat is closing up.

I have found out that heat makes it worse, and it's hard for me to breathe anyways when it's hot. I also feel dizzy during those episodes.

Lately, I have been getting lightheaded going up stairs and ladders. Usually I just get lightheaded just by getting up and my vision becomes black. It happens a lot, especially since I tend to get up fast. I got to stop doing that, but sometimes even sitting up makes me feel lightheaded.

Does anyone else experience these? What are any possible causes for these?

You didn't mention what your blood pressure is. Sounds like low blood pressure issue. I think maybe you should see a doctor . I'm not sure what all can cause low b/p. But I wouldn't mess around with it. So keep us informed on what could be causing this. Wish you the best

I remember one time having low blood pressure when it was checked, and I was told to stop getting up fast and to just sit up, wait, and then stand up.

Sounds like a trip to the doctors is your best course of action. Anaemia can sometimes cause similar things as low blood pressure so, ask for blood tests when you go.

      And do update us all.

Its possible you are a 'shallow breather'.   You dont really forget to breathe but suddenly become aware of how shallow your breathing is .    As you focus on the feeling that you are forgetting to breathe,it may make it even worse and suddenly you take a deep breath.    Shallow breathing can mean you have low oxygen levels and so if you suddenly get up you may feel lightheaded.

Its just the way you are. If it really bothers you try taking deep breaths say, once a day......you may feel dizzy as the oxygen fills your lungs and enters the bloodstream.    Alternatively try power walking or jogging.    Exercise will help with your anger/panic attacks as well.

I know that I have a tendency towards shallow breathing but I do take deep breaths a few times an hour. I am aware of that so it doesn't really bother me.

These episodes are hard to describe. My breathing just becomes less and I have to think about breathing in and breathing out. Like force myself through the steps while trying not to throw up because I'm dizzy.

I find that the symptoms (breathing issues) go away when I'm in a cooler area.

I'm going to try walking some more. Hopefully the weather clears up.

I wonder if these symptoms could be connected to my joint/muscle pain because I found out about with similar problems who also have the joint pain. Like I found out about people that have the feeling of forgetting to breathe and it's similar to my symptoms.

I'm pretty sure I have hypermobility syndrome , and apparently my mom might have it.

I also have stomach problems where I get full easily which apparently other family members have problems with.

My body just kind of sucks. I won't be able to see anyone until July.

I am sure everything you are saying relates to your anxiety and panic attacks. You may be too focused on your body and are thinking all these symptoms are serious.. The problems with muscles etc are also possibly due to low oxygen levels.

The stomach problems could all be related as well as you are too tense and so your stomach feels full very quickly..

Do you have plenty of friends? or are you a loner? Are you in work? Do you have a hobby?               You dont say how old you are but I'm guessing you are quite young and in US?

Dont worry about the weather...just get out there and get power walking. If you can get jogging a few minutes a day you will be surprised at how much better you feel. Do you have a garden where you could dig and grow something? This gives you exercise and an interest.

Make that effort.....only you are in charge of your body so tell it what to do.

Anxiety can create anxiety so you have to break that cycle.

This may sound mad but when you look in the mirror, pretend you are meeting your very best friend and give them[you] a very big smile and hold that smile for a few seconds..

Really don't think it's the anxiety as I don't even feel anxious during those episodes.

My blood pressure does tend to drop after standing up, which is an odd feeling.

My appetite problems could be caused by lots of things like the meds I'm taking, but it was already crummy to begin with. I also grew up not eating enough due to circumstances. I also constantly regurgitate and possibly loosing weight.

Really don't think anxiety/shallow breathing can cause hypermobility. That is when joints move more than they are supposed to and it's usually genetic. That can cause pain because the ligaments are being over stressed, and can result in dislocations.

When I mentioned the weather I mean there have been a bunch of thunderstorms, some of them severe, so I don't think I should walk out in that. I do walk around a lot when the weather isn't bad and I still get lightheaded. If it's hot I can barely breathe. I do garden though.

A lot of these symptoms have been going on for years actually but I am now trying to do something about it. I usually just ignored them, but they're still there and I could actually be doing harm that way. I don't even think these symptoms are serious. It's just my body being crummy. It's not like I'm going to die from it.

There's a thing called POTS which I do have a lot of symptoms of. I will need to do a tilt table test to confirm it. I've knew about it before making this post and I've found that there are people with it who do have the feeling that they forget to breathe, and it's often just seen as anxiety by doctors who don't know about it. It's actually a problem with the autonomic system.

If I do have it then it's probably on the mild side.

Yes,I've heard about POTS and your symptoms could fit.   I was getting the feeling you are male, but maybe not. POTS is more common in females.      Hypermobility can be inherited and this can cause blood vessels that are more elastic which could account for your symptoms.

I'm guessing you just need peace of mind as to exactly what is going on so you can start a lifestyle to accomodate the problem.     It  may be that you will have a difficult task to convince a doctor that you are not just an anxious person as POTS people often are diagnosed this way.      Good luck.

I am biologically female but I identify as a male. I do have family members with the same problems so I just need to be upfront about it and what it could be because just trying to hint at it usually led nowhere.

I do know that I should get multivitamins and salt but I don't really like salty foods. I guess it's more gatorade or other similar drinks.

These symptoms were concerning at first, such as the breathing problem, dizziness, and occasional heart out of beat but now it's just mildly annoying.
